I've decided to bite the bullet and have all the heating on in the house at a constantly low temperature for the past week...then again I have had flu so I haven't been able to go out much and I've been drinking loads of hot drinks but still feeling chilly. I've also noticed a difference in the amount of mould growth...it's slowed right down, not sure if its the pure bleach or the constant heat, but its working
Now if I could just deal with the stuff in the kitchen (will require me climbing to wash it away) and get the hall repainted to make it look nicer instead of all the stains we should be sorted
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -

Found this in my 1001 ways book
Mould remover
● Using an old scrubbing brush and
white vinegar, scrub to remove
mould or mildew.
● Grapefruit seed oil disinfects and inhibits
mould growth. Mix some with water
in a spray bottle. Use 20 drops of extract
in a one litre spray bottle of water.
Might be worth a try0 -
I have no heating because my boiler is broken and wont be mended for some time. Thing is my house is suffering for it. We can put extra clothes on and drink hot drinks etc but my house is falling to pieces. I have mould growing on the walls and ceilings and wallpaper falling off and bubbling up. I've lost 2 lots of blinds through mould and curtains and nets and my internal doors have now warped along with the front and back doors and wont close, I know it happens to external ones but I've been in my house 18 yrs and it hasnt been like this. It broke in september and prob wont be mended till the spring so I'm pretty worried about my property
That's the only problem, my mum's house is the same in the rooms she doesn't use, what a pain it is for you. I know I've mentioned it before, but dehumidifiers are quite good - I know that the better ones are quite dear (ours was about £100 for a middle of the road one which has lasted well, from Argos, but that was some years ago), I wonder if you are a member of Freecycle? In our local group, people ask to borrow stuff quite often, I'm wondering if someone might be able to lend you one til your boiler's up and running?
Having said that, I'm not sure how they do on electricity, I don't think they're too bad though and they do kick out warmer air than they take in too. Maybe someone on here knows more about their running costs?
I do hope you get sorted with your boiler, my bedroom was damp as a kid and I always seemed to have colds and coughs because of it, it's horrible innit.

Squiggles, Nothing to do with having your heating on, Bet your like me it's getting your slippers off and stepping into a cold shower /bath, do you smoke as it's bad for your circulation,my fingers/toes go white ever winter, it's called might not spell it right Raynards) Chillblains take ages to go and they turn mauve and still hurt, skin goes hard and peel :A then there ok, I brought three pairs of angora socks from damart and wear them their great, not had them since, touch wood, but I do run some hot water before gettingi n the shower to warm it up first, hope that helps,0

How can't it be fixed until the spring? I know the weather has been fairly mild at the moment but what are you going to do if we get a bad winter?0 -
I have been accepted on the warmfront scheme for a grant as I am on a disability benefit and the boiler needs replacing but this grant can take 6 months and in some cases up to 9 months to go through so I have to wait but it will be worth it in the endThanx
