when you cook your vegtables, boil all the veg together in one pan.

    (less washing up too )

or better still...get a steamer. faster and keeps in all goodness :)

I know the answer to my cold feet/hands/body problem..
I need to move about a bit more :rotfl:
I really really feel the cold and am very inactive:rolleyes: , not the best of combinations, so last year, whenever I really started to feel the cold, I would go for a brisk 10 minute walk around the block. It worked wonders! This year, I am determined to get me blood moving a bit more and keep the cold at bay :T

My mother has a gaping letterbox and last winter you could feel the wind rattle around the whole house. I am buying her a letterbox brush to fend off the cold this winter - hoping it has some major effect!

I have a rolled up pair of socks in mine, it's the perfect size and has completely stopped the draughts and stopped it rattling. We have the push in type, so it just falls out when the postie pushes the mail through.

My husband said to me today that we should get rid of our electric fire in the front room because it cost alot to run.

It is a really lovely looking fire but I know theres no point having it if it costs a fortune to run, I dont have a gas point in the fire place so dont know what else I can put there ?

My husband wont do a open fire because the walls are newly plastered inside the fireplace.

Any ideas what we can put there ? something thats cheap to use ?
    Kindness costs nothing :)

A wood burner? Or one of those halogen heaters which are supposed to be cheaper to run.

  • Here's a good idea to keep warm.....get a cat or dog to sit on your lap!!

Obviously its not very practical with a rotty or a great dane cos you wouldn't be able to move/breathe  but my lickle pup likes to sleep on my knee and she keeps me lovely and warm :D

Ok I have just had a letter from British gas saying that they have reviewed my direct debit for gas this year and it will now be £46 a MONTH !
I nearly fell over, it was £22.50 , so has more than doubled.
    Please keep the tips coming.
Now I really want a wood burner , they are so expensive to buy, can any one reccomend a good place to buy ?

This thread has given me so many good ideas, I am going to set up a spreadsheet to monitor my weekly usage (and the cost, I pay by DD and want to know if I am using more than what I already pay so that I don't get a shock when the bill arrives) does anyone else do this? Or is this really anal?
I do that. I just read the meters whenever I think of it and it works out how much I've used since the last reading and how much it's cost. Also works out quarterly usage and cost and plots it on a graph.

I also have this kind of system, but during the night I usually have the heating off, but one of those oil filled raditors in two rooms, surely this would be cheaper to run then leaving the boiler no right?

It depends on how it works - with the thermostat set to 10C & since the insulation in the flat was really good the temp never got that low & the system was actually off.
Still wish I could buy a TARDIS instead of a house!
