Well ..................I eat lots of mustard and chillis they make you really sweat! I keep bedroom curtains drawn all winter. I leave bath water go cold so the heat warms the room. I put tin foil behind the radiators. I wear a hat and jumper if its freezing. I put lots of layers on the bed.
Remember though to wear deo antiperspirant...... The armpits get hot even if the nose does not !! HEE HEE:eek:0 -
Has anyone turned on their heating yet?I'm hoping to leave ours off as long as possible.

I'm sure someone will have posted this one already...
.... use a (3 element) steamer on one gas burner/electric ring and cook a whole meal intead of using 2 or 3 rings.
E.g. Potatos, peas/carrots, fish .... as sampled this evening! Hopefully, my electricity bill will be similarly tasty...0 -

AGREED!!!!!!!!!! My bf is always boiling when he goes to bed, if hes too cold too he tends to sleep in his PJ bottoms and ill sleep in a strappy top and shorts. he gets so hot its unreal though.
Also if anyone else has young kids between say 18months and 4/5 years old - Ethol Austin are doing a 3 for 2 offer on childrens thermal tshirts. I brought Ben 3 tshirts today (one black and two white) for £4 (£2 each and cheapest one free). so at least i knwo he'll be snug in the winter.
Im going back tomorrow to buy soem thermal tshirts for em and bf as they are currently have a deal that if you spend £10 you get £2 off - they were giving out vouchers for this today so i got £15 for £10.50 including the deals i had. I got 3 tshirts for ben for £4, a fleece top for me £3.50 and a fleece jumper for Ben for £3 so i know he'll be snug this winter
:TTime to find me again0 -
I did this when we moved in, the kids quickly got used to it and sitting in the living room is nicer because the door to the hallway is always shut. We have little children so we have fitted the U shaped rubber door buffers to the doors to stop them trappig their fingers. This reduces the slam when the door closes and even though there is a gap in the door it still makes a huge difference when the front door is opened, all the hot air does not escape!!0

This has always puzzled me... If I know we want to have hot water at 7AM, 12PM & 7PM what is the most efficient way to set the timer?
Is it best for:
- the heat to come on half an hour before the desired times and then just 1 hour to heat the tank
- leave it on 6:30AM to 8PM
- leave it on constantly
Another question is how long does the water stay hot in a lagged 120litre tank, with a maximum temperature setting of 55 degree Celsius?
And another, my 4 young kids will soon be 4 adolescents using a lot more hot water, would it be better for me to buy a lager capacity tank or just keep the gas on longer?0 -
I did this a while ago and it has saved so much aggravation about changing the central heating settings. The digital programmable thermostat I bought was a straight forward replacement for the existing dial one and cost me £40 from B&Q, I fitted it myself. I was toying with the idea of buying the £80 wireless version but I didn't really need it.
I have it set to automatically come on if the room temperature falls below the different temperature settings I have chosen for the different times of the day i.e. allowing colder temperatures overnight & in the middle of the day, but warmer in the morning and evening. If it ever is too cold you can easily override it for that time period and then it reverts to normal at the next time period.
I'm not sure how much money this has saved, we used to forget to turn the heating down when we went out or went to bed and now we don't have to worry as it adjusts automatically. For me it is the convenience factor that makes the big difference with this.0 -
If you have an immersion heater, leave it on 24/7: its internal thermostat will ensure it only comes on when necessary.[/quote]
According to energy line, this is not correct and it will cost you to have it on all the time.
Anyone know the definitive answer on this, cos i'm fed up with no hot water :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -

Anyway, my sis got something very strange for our nan a couple of years back. It was called a monkey and is basically a giant slipper for both feet!! Keeps her tootsies lovely and warm, and I think it has a massage facility too!!Comping, Clicking & Saving for Change0 -
We leave our on 24/7, only turning it off when we go away for longer than overnight.
Our electric/gas bills since we moved here (our previous place had gas hob, gas oven, fire, boiler & central heating - 3 bed mid-terrace with HUGE kitchen! Just about nothing was electric) which has electric everything except fire and 2 heaters in the bedrooms (we had the heaters in the bedrooms fitted and we're also an end terrace here with the gabel wall being north faceing) has not really changed that much. We were paying £47 DD to Powergen at our old house, and it worked out about £55 a month for us here to British Gas. Originally we were on token meters, August 05 we switched over to DD. We've just swapped over to Powergen online so we'll have to see what the bills will be like this year :rolleyes:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0
