I am currently with o2 access for my broadband (up to 8MB), My best download speed is 1.5MB. I am only 6 months into my 12 month contract.
Is there anyway i can get out of the contract due to poor connections speeds. I know its "up to" but surely 1.5 is taking the pi**
Thanks

Legally you can't but there is no harm in starting to download half the internet and they'll soon be begging you to sling your hook.
Try joining this project - http://www.majestic12.co.uk/ - saves you the effort of finding something to chew up the download and it's all perfectly legal.0 -

What are people around you getting ? How far from the exchange are you ?
Are you using wireless ? What is the state of all YOUR hardware ?
This is why they say "up to 8mbs", there are so many variables over which the ISP has NO control !0 -
Regardless of that O2 Access is still a very poor value deal now that they have decided that ridiculously low usages exceed their FUP to counteract the abysmal performance they are/were offering. Well worth ditching if possible to do so at no expense imo.0

They have an 0800 support line - so why not ring up armed with your analyses of how they are NOT delivering on their promise and insist on being allowed to leave. Certainly those who have been "over" using their "unlimited" o2 ACCESS subs have when o2 have called to nag at them to do less, been offered the chance to move on (without penalty).
PS: I am assuming that you are not confusing:
a) Modem synch speed = varies with length/quality of line from exchange - eg I am about 5kms, 56dB Attenuation so only get around 4-4.5Mbps synch
http://www.o2help.co.uk/router-statistics/
b) Actual speed limit = potentially LOWER than modem synch BECAUSE of the profiling applied to ADSLmax circuits by BT's exchange kit IF you ever lose synch
http://www.robertos.me.uk/html/bt_ip_profiles.html
c) Actual throughput given a and b - potentially a LOT lower for streaming as there is traffic management

I woudnt think so no, It depends on how far you are from the exchange what speeds you get, Also, Why are you just complaining about the speeds 6 months in?0

I am about 300m as the crow flies from my exchange. I have a wired connection and i have tried connecting straight to the master socket with nothing else connected.
I have complained previously but to no avail.
Looking at other speed tests from other ISP, they seem to be faster.0 -

Googles - work your way through the links I provided in the posting above and that should narrow down where you have speed issues might be - ie modem synch and/or IP profile and/or congestion. (Actually if you are also using WiFi wireless access there may be issues there too, but until you are clear if it is modem/profile/etc.)
Actually you could add http://www.speedtest.net as a reliable and automatic LOGGING (ie you can see your history, as long as you retain the same IP #) so you can see graphs of how it varies of time.

In their defence, O2 do give you 30 days to cancel without penalty if you aren't happy. That is what I did. I was getting dial-up like speeds and I wasn't happy.
They then sent me a bill for £230. They said I had delayed the switch outside the 30 day period so had to pay a year's subscription as a penalty. I had delayed the switch, because, in the email with my MAC, they told me to. I had a copy of the email to prove it.
They agreed to cancel the penalty charge.0
