I bought a grow indoors mushroom pack from Wilkinsons and the 'mushrooms' have started to grow, trouble is they are really strange, the surfaces are not smooth, but bumpy and they dont seem to have a stalk! They are like crustaceous balls and certainly don't look edible. Any advice much appreciated

They sound like the fungus I have recently had growing in my garden. Another couple of days and they may rise up and show some stalk. Have you thought of contacting Wilkinsons for clarification ? They could be poisonous and might have to do a product recall ! I'll take a look in my fungus book and see if I can let you know the name of my garden ones.
I have a B&Q mushroom kit which has done b.all so far.0 -
I was looking at those kits in Wilkies the other day, they were 50% off, about £3. It says on the box you could expect 2 or 3 crops, sorry to push in on your thread but does anyone know how many mushrooms you get, do you save much by growing your own.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

Thanks Jollyanna, there is about five coming through now, they are so weird, i picked one and cut it in half and it was just white with brown specks, no gills or anything, most strange. They are already quite big, even when they first come through, lol, it could only happen to me! Sailorsam what can i say, i,m six quid out of pocket at the moment, but maybe someone will comment who has had great success!0

Got some photos of these monsters!! But trying to work out how to upload them!
You need to upload your photos to a site like photobucket (it's free) and then when your photos are uploaded, you click on the 'share photo' option and up pops a box with various html codes. Choose the code 'for websites/webpages/forums' and copy the code. Then come back here, and simply paste the code directly into the reply box and click 'post reply'...adding text, should you wish to.
It all sounds rather complicated but it isn;t if i can do it.

Well done on uploading the photos.
Those mushrooms don't look quite right to me and i wouldn't eat them. Even though they should be safe to eat, they don't look very appealing.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200
