Bed bug bites from hotel in Hounslow

Just back from a weekend at a hotel in Hounslow.

On the Sunday morning I noticed red marks appear on my legs especially around vein areas. They were itchy but didnt think anything of them. Got home later that night and my legs were full of them.

Monday morning they were still red and itchy so popped to the local drop in clinic to be told that they were bed bug bites:eek:

Contacted the hotel by email and included pics and advised that the bites were 100% guaranteed from their bedding/sofa in the room we stayed in.

After a day or so I received this email:

Sorry for your medical condition, it not happened before in our hotel. We clean and it will not happen again. Again sorry for your problem.
(Written exactly as I received it)

Even if they had been courteous enough to offer a partial refund or a freebie weekend again I dont think I'd have been wanting to stay in their bed bug ridden rooms again.

Now what to write on Trip Advisor??? THE TRUTH??

    Why not?

    Seems sensible to me.

A review on trip advisor is a good idea. I worked in a hostel in Australia and we had bed bugs on occasion, everyone gets them at some point over there.

If the hotel do not know what they're doing (you can't "clean" away bed bugs, they need to be fumigated (sp)) then they bed bugs will stay, other travellers should be warned of the risk.

Now, I always check the matress, even when staying in a hilton or marriott. I'd check your clothes and suitcases incase you have any stowaways.

Cal LB Houslow Environmental Health department ASAP to let them know of the infestation.

You cant just "clean" bedbugs in a hotel. Infestation can and will last months and months if it is not dealt with professionally and properly in trhe first place.

As a premises is infested and it has affected your health, let Environmetal Health know so they can ensure that the premise is safe for other visitors and staff.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

100% guaranteed? That's very strong language that you'd probably be unable to back up.

I can assure you that they did not come from my home and the hotel was the only place I stayed at that weekend.

I'd just change it to "highly likely", especially in any correspondence. It is possible they are in your home, and you can get bitten from sitting on any upholstery e.g. in a pub.

I'd be worried about infesting my old house . They can be tricky things to remove and start living in all the noches of your bed frame. I saw where someone had their home infested on a TV show and they have to have all the clothes cleaned and the room fumigated.

It's also possible that they could be flea bites. There are quite a few naughty guests who'll sneak pets into their hotel room - and leave behind a few stray 'little offenders'.....

We did google flea bites but even the doc confirmed that they were bed bug bites.

It's just the quickly written email we received that puzzled us.. Surely any hotel would be mortified to be told of the problems we had and would have bent over backwards to apologize and assured us more that the problem would be sorted correctly.

I suppose I expected maybe a slight refund for our problems or at least an offer of a free stay to apologize for our 'medical condition' as they put it. Before anyone leaps in this is not why I emailed them in the first place.
