Last halloween I saved some seeds from our pumpkin. In the spring I planted my courgette seeds along with a few of the pumpkin seeds. The courgettes came up nicely but no sign of the pumpkins, disappointing but worth a try.
I repotted my courgettes and had three plants in the greenhouse, two grew at the normal rate but one grew huge leaves.I have now planted this out in the garden, which I can't do with the courgettes because we have chickens and they shred anything I plant out but with lots of protection this other plant is surviving.I am now wondering if one of the pumpkin seeds has survived and somehow I have mixed them up.
Thanks Kay for the advice and if it turns out to be a pumpkin I now know what to do.Fingers crossed.

Thankyou great info i would love to try and grow them perhaps i am too late now unless i can buy plants ready to put in the ground.

I bought a little plant from morrisons a couple of days ago. It's doing ok so far, but my butternut squash plant has had its smaller leaves munched by something so I've put down lots of snail pellets just in case my pumpkin plant has the same fate!

Sometimes not moving backwards is as much an achievement as moving forwards is on other times. (originally posted by kidcat)

It's only a bargain if you were going to buy it anyway!

I bought a nice pumpkin plant today, about 10 inches tall for £1.49 in Hilliers, hth.
    £2 savers club no.107 :j £36 so far.
  • Honestly, I bought seeds from Focus months ago (Fothergill) and stuck them into a little pot and thought "oh well least I tried". Had it on a windowsill and the !!!!!! grew and is currently sitting in a 1 foot square tub where it's starting to produce pumpkins.

I'll probably have to do as mentioned before and pinch out the growing tip and make sure the plant only produces 1 or 2 pumpkins but it's worth a punt.

I was really surprised at how fast it actually grew and how well it actually did. Definately worth getting a small plant now if you can get your hands on one but certainly give it a go.

Pumpkin curry sounds lovely. My personal favourite is Pumpkin Pie (the american one) Amazing how sweet the final result is considering the ingredients. You can also use Butternut Squash to make it.

As I've mentioned elsewhere on this section.., someone 'kindly' planted pumpkins on my allotment. I'd be grateful for any good recipes for pumpkins. They aren't my favourite plant but very willing to be converted.

I have a pumpkin plant my son badgered me to buy but nowhere to plant the little thing !! Could I plant it amongst some fruit trees (very nice and sunny area) ? Exactly how big do they grow then ??? Was hoping to plant it in a grow bag but guess from the responses above it won't work. Does it need sunshine ?
