  • yes, BJ's right; I work in the west- end and have never seen a major theatre performance on a sunday. There is increasing pressure for Sunday performances but at the moment its mon to sat only

what about Lion King, that has been on every Sunday for years?? Also Chitty had a Sunday matinee at the Palladium.

  • I went on Thursday. A cracking family musical, well worth a fiver each.

  • I went to see Wicked last night. it was WICKED. I wouldn't take my 6 year old to see it. I don't think he would get it. But the wizard of Oz will never be the same for me. I think I'm going to read the book now. Anyone know where i can get the novel from at a good price? They were selling it for £15 at the theatre I certainly wasn't paying that.
    HOW MUCH ?
  • Took the missus to see this yesterday afternoon. Initially reluctant to see it - she loved it (and so surprisingly enough did I). I like musicals but was expecting this to be a bit of a borefest like Lion King (ie telling almost exactly the same story as the movie).

Instead I found it a clever, witty and twisted take on the Wizard of Oz - part prequel/part comtemporaneous to the original. The set design was amazing - as was the choreography, lighting (spell casting) and sound design (Wizard moments). Unusually there wasn't really a duff song either.

Storywise it developed really well in the first half but maybe a little rushed towards the end once it caught up with the events in Oz.

Acting wise - both of the leads were very good although the lass playing Glinda perhaps slightly weaker.

Little ones won't really get the story but will probably enjoy the experience nontheless. My missus - non-British and therefore hasn't seen it every Christmas since she was a nipper - struggled to get all of the links with the Wizard of Oz. 10+ year olds (particularly girls) with a recent viewing of Oz under their belts should love it.

We were in Circle row X (just a couple from very back) and we had a great view. Missus did take her mini binoculars to check out the actors faces from time to time though.

Fantastic value for a fiver (and mucho brownie points from the missus).

The novel is in WH Smiths Top 50 at £6.99 and is currently two for one if bought with another one from the Top 50. A pretty good deal. Just bought it for my hols in a couple of weeks.

It is £7.99 on Smith's website. I had a quick look around and it is £5.99 on Play.Com

Hope this helps. Am off to see it tomorrow and can't wait.
