Seems like he's being a bit petty to me. If it's in his contract that a maintainence / handyman is expected to help out on an as and when needed basis then what's the problem. He's refusing to do part of his job so gets a written warning.
Also with an unhelpful attitude like that he's probably going to get his co-workers and his boss's back up and there's plenty of people out there looking for work that would probably volunteer to help lift and carry things for female co-workers even if it wasnt part of their normal duties.Snootchie Bootchies!0 -

Is the point not that the women in the company are refusing to do the jobs that they are capable of doing and requesting he does them because at the end of the day he is a man, would they be making the same requests if the caretaker was female or would they be doing these jobs themselves.

does your friend have other set duties?
is he capable of doing all of these plus the manual handling,or are other aspects of the duty being negelected through the time doing the lifting?0 -
another case of lazyitis , he is lucky to have a job and should be thankful for it. As a gentleman , i would always bear the brunt and fetch and carry as required as long as my family were fed and watered . no matter what the situation was ..........we all have bad days , some more than others ..................0

Or is it because the subject is a man?
Try reading the whole thread again & reverse the gender roles.
See if it makes any difference for you...
& while your at it put the kettle on, I know you make it all the time because you a woman but you have to its in your job spec & there are plenty of other women that will serve me tea.Not Again0 -
i would talk to ACAS about it. Not sure which way to do it but if the women are employed to do the work they should be able to do it and not be constantly asking for help. The odd really heavy thing I could believe but it seems like they are using it as an excuse.0
