Annoyed with Tesco - Where do I stand?

Hi All....
I purchased a Sony Ericsson W205 as a Vodafone PAYG from Tesco about 8 months ago. It wasnt the best of handsets by a mile, but one particular day it just died completely and refused to recharge. I spoke with Tesco Helpline who said I could only send it back and they would repair it.
Long story short I kicked up a fuss as that would take 7 days and as I run my own business, needed my phone ASAP. So they told me to take to the store I purchased it from where I could replace it.
That was in March this year, now the new handset is playing up again - keeps freezing when I send texts, randomly going onto silent so I miss calls and cant hear people, etc, etc.
I spoke to Tesco today who said I could either send it off for repair, write in a letter to them, or take it back again to the store where they would replace it...OR give me my money back.
I am a bit annoyed with them in fairness, so was thinking of being cheeky and asking them to knock off the difference to a better phone I fancy (about 30 quid).
Do you think this would be possible, or would they laugh my out of the store?
Should I really be expecting anything free off them or is what they have offered the best I can hope for?
Cheers

If you need to rely on it for your business you need a business contract that gives you loan phone cover. You using a consumer level contract and for that you get the support you have even if it was a big phone chain it would only be a loan phone if they had opne in stock, not a right.
By all means try but it's probably a losing game. You have the right to a repair or replacement (at Tesco's choice) for the term of the warranty (SE is usually two years) but you do not have the rights to your money back. They may offer it as a goodwill gesture but unlikely.
If you need a phone for your business you need to either get a contract that gives you this cover, or just buy a 2nd handset to swap sim cards over till yours is fixed by Tesco.0 -
If they have offered to replace it or give you your moeny back then i dont see a problem if you ask for the money to be knocked off a better one. They still have you as a customer if they do. Dont ask, dont get is my philosophymake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Why be annoyed with Tesco ?
They seem to have bent over backwards to sort the problem out. It's Sony you need to be talking to. They have year on year produced phones that fail at an alarming rate.
Tesco have even offered you a full refund after 8 months !, thats what I call service . Every little helps.0 -

Actually, you might have a point - I obviously assumed because Tesco sold me the phone, it's their obligation to help (which they have), but if Sony have produced a rubbish phone, then maybe I will go for them instead....ta0 -
no, your contract is with Tesco, thats where you bought it. Let them have the hassle of dealing with Sony.
