    How much did it cost?

It was only about £70 or £80 from B&Q. Reckon its worth taking back there or contacting B&Q direct? Will ask my MIL if she still has the receipt...

If you do take it back customer service will try to tell you

"No reciept, not our problem" - wrong, if you can proove you bought it there credit card slip for example.

"If it's faulty you have to contact the manufacturer - it's our policy that we refer you to the manufacturer" - WRONG - sales of goods act puts the retailer with the responsibility of ensuring a product lasts for a reasonable length of time.

The person on customer service will not want know when you quote the sales of goods act, you will *HAVE* to write a letter then you will *HAVE* keep writing until you give them a final warning that you will start court proceedings and as soon as you do so the cost to them will go up to include the court fee....at this point they will probably back down and repair your mower. But you may eventually have to start online court proceedings. and see what the adjudicator thinks of an 80 pound mower breaking after less than 2 seasons use.

However to cut a potentially long hassle arguement with B&Q it is sensible to contact the manufacturer first and see if they will repair it free of charge. If they don't then I would go after B&Q.

Will give B&Q a call in the morning. If they agree to do something, how do you think they will go about it? I.e. a lawn mower is not exactly the easiest thing to get back to them, or would they refer me to a local agent?

They may say bring it to the store - not unreasonable

They may say take it to repair agent xyz (sometimes "HSS hire" is used by big shops) If the place they say to take it to is further away than the B&Q it's upto you whether to accept that or not.

I really doubt they will offer to pick it up from you.

They will most likely refuse to help fullstop & refer you to Flymo.

Sorry I meant to say phone Flymo up in the morning and not B&Q. Take it they will say the same - take it to one of their local outlets??

If they agree, to help, yes, I expect they will have local agents for you to take it to.

    How did it go?
