Insuring against unauthorised calls

Hi all
I'm posting what probably is quite a fundamental question to most 'seasoned' mobile users of this forum.
As I said on my previous post I am a relative newcomer to the mobile phone world and have only ever been PAYG. I'm now seriously considering going on contract but want to know as to whether unauthorised mobile calls can be insured against. From the bits of advice I've had off other contract users, am I correct in thinking that you are not liable for any unauthorised calls made after you have contacted your network to advise of a stolen phone?
If this is the case, is there anyway that unauthorised calls can be insured against before a person realises that a phone has been stolen/lost? (I'm a responsible person and always look after my possessions with due care), even the most careful person may take a couple of hours before they realise that a phone is missing.
If insurance is available for the above scenario then would it be best taken via the mobile network or are there standalone providers who offer this cover?
Thanks in advance for any answers to the above or any further advice around the issue.

You're right that all calls made after you report the phone lost/stolen are not your problem (but as the sim's blocked unless someone at the network make an error it's not an issue).
I'd have to say I don't think you can insure against unauthorised calls as it could be abused. You could make a load of calls to Oz and then claim the phone was lost just after. People do try this now, but we've ways of finding them out at the network level which an insurer wouldn't have access to.
If there is such an insurance I'm sure someone will be along with a link ?0 -
