Insurance/Warranty on Mobile bought from an online auction?

I have been looking into purchasing a Blackberry 9700 from eBay, if a bit thrifty can probably get one in the region of £200-£275. However my main gripe is that on the Blackberry website the 24 month manufacturers warranty is stated as 'non-transferable'.
So I looked into getting mobile phone insurance at around £50 for a years cover, but as far as I have found all of the insurers state in the T&C that an item must be: less than 6 months, old proof of purchase is necessary and that items bought from an online auction are not covered. Most of the phones being sold are unwanted upgrades so there is no typical receipt that you usually get when buying from a standard high street shop which is a pain in itself so its not like I could even request that and state it was a gift to the insurers.
I know that the item would be covered by my Direct Line Contents Cover but will this likely need proof of purchase/not cover if bought from auction?
Also any guidance or personal experience with a similar problem would be much appreciated.

That is the risk you take vs the reduction in price that you pay for it. Unless the Ebay auction is a shop your unlikely to get a proof of purchase. You could always ask the seller if they can send you the proof of purchase with the delivery.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
The warranty is with the original owner of the phone who has the receipt and proof of purchase in their name. When the phone is sold on the warranty is invalidated.
If you were to make an insurance claim, you would need to provide the original proof of purchase.0
