TV Licence Refund - Am I being screwed over?

Hi all,

I currently have a tv licence on a quarterly basis and have a payment due out on 1st June. However I am moving on the 19th June and I have just been told that I have to pay for the whole quarter, even though it will only be 19 days. Is there anyway that I can get around this blatant robbery of a scheme?

Cheers

Will you have a TV at your new address? If so just tell them the new address and transfer the licence.

If you are not going to need one when you move then stop watching TV at the end of May (refunds are only given for complete quarters)

  • Hi,

We have received this response from TV Licensing:

    "Hi Soteman,

Just wanted to confirm what mjm3346 and Robert2009 have said. In most cases, you are only able to receive a refund on your TV Licence for full unused quarters (for more details, see here: http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/faqs/FAQ76).

You are, however, able to easily transfer your Licence to your new address via the following link: https://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/view/index.aspx.

I hope this helps clarify things.

    Kind regards,

Thanks for the help and advice people. I really appreciate it. I'm moving back in with my parent's who already have a tv license so I can't transfer it. I'm still not exactly sure how difficult it would be to process refunds on a monthly basis, especially as every other utility provider does so but ah well!

I guess because every other utility supplier only has a proportion of the population to deal with, whereas TV licensing is one body which deals with almost every household in the country.
