Vodafone sales staff's authority to offer deals over the phone ?

I spoke to a Vodafone sales rep on the phone last week. They offered me a 12 month contract on the HTC at a decent tariff. I couldnt do the deal then because I was awaiting my PAC code.

( I knew this was going to become an issue ! )

I've since sorted my PAC code, tied up all the lose ends with my previous contract, but Vodafone seem to have moved the goalposts and claim they dont do 12 month contracts.

Are you able to speak to the sales person who made the initial offer or do Vodafone keep a copy of all phone transcripts.

I was told to expect this, but hey-ho , sometimes you gotta have trust or the world would fall apart :o

Dont believe vodafone sales deals, 'apparently' different staff can offer different things, and then if you dont have it in writing (you don't on the phone) you get signed up to a completely different tariff. Experiences show never to accept VF deals on the phone always get an email confirmation.
People have had deals end prematurely, or contract terms extended by 6-12 months. In some forum posts even signed up to upgrades they never agreed to.
Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies

I was aware of the tricks they employ before I called Vodafone ( but I always record all my phone conversations ).

But where do you draw the line ?

Every company on the planet is subject to internet reviews for outstanding skullduggery. 02 wont shift these days, Orange load all there phones with branding and T-Mobile is a no go zone around here.

    So thats leaves Vodafone :

Dial a phone : I cant be doing the redemption thing
Phones4u : I cant be doing the redemption thing
Mobiles.co.uk : I would rather have an affair with Barbera Cartland

    So thats leaves Vodafone direct

Deals can only be had by phone

Hence, here I am. It's either new phone or old phone :o

OP recould request transcript of call, under DPA / FOI ? never sure which one is relevant, or best!

mention most uposet, may now have to go elsewhere, and see how much they want your custom..

    Too much hassle.

When I go into Tescos for my bread, butter milk and sugar. I put them in a basket and pay at the till. I dont want to argue with the checkout girl or quote the data protection act. I just want me tea & toast.

I just want phone retailers to be like grocery shopping. Pick a competitve deal and pay. No hidden extras, no liars on the phone selling a service they dont intend to supply and no behind the scene deals giving one customer a better contract then the next.

I might start looking for my old Nokia 3310 and admit defeat.

Problem with requesting transcripts is phone companies lose them when it goes in your favour if they failed to honour a deal. The only ones I found that do honour it is insurance companies as they have to legally be aware of all changes affecting insurance.

And they are policed by the FSA. No-one effrectively polices the Mobile Phone industry - it's more like ABTA who are there to pay lipservice to protection and who, in actuality, are there to help travel companies avoid paying anything meaningful for their misdemeanors.

If it ain't in writing, don't do it.
