Aldi pressure cooker Kidnapped my chicken!

Some help someone please!

I bought a single handed locking pressure cooker from Aldi's several weeks ago, used it with varying degrees of success before I put a whole chicken in it today and the lid has jammed. I have let it cool but no chance of getting it off and I'm a pretty handy bloke. I'm certain it's not the chicken jamming it as it there are no moveable parts inside the cooker. Before I rip the lid off, salvage the chicken and chuck the damn cooker back at Aldi's, does anyone have any experience or suggestions?

The helpline is, as usual, about as much use as, well.........a chocolate pressure cooker.
Regards

Not that handy if you can't get the lid off a pan :D

    Sorry, couldn't resist that.

If I were you I would give it to the Mrs to sort out, failing that post in the Old Style board, the ladies in there know everything there is to know about pressure cookers.

I'm wondering if making either lid or pot cold would work? Ie: Put in washng up bowl, fill with cold water, ice cubes, and some salt, to under the lid line and try five minutes later?

Or would that do the reverse action? :o

Me too. My Nan had one that left the work surface, flew through her bungalow roof and onto the pathway. Typically on Christmas Day. I am sure as this was years ago, that they are better made now, but I would be on edge constantly if I had one!

Er, that's not really helpful though! I bet it just opens when it has completely cooled :)

Can you take the cooker back to Aldi with the chicken in it and see if they can open it?

If they can't they should give you a new cooker *and* a chicken.

You probably have tried this but have you released the pressure from the cooker by (slowly) lifting the bit where the air comes out until there is no more pressure inside?

    Just a thought?
