Hi
I have just dug out my old wireless router (DLink - 524) as I want to be able to connect my netbook to the wireless
However I cant for the world find the CD that came with the router. Should I be able to just plug and play the router? or do I need the CD to make it work?
Cheers

you should be able to just connect up the router, reset it back to factory defaults and then type this into internet explorer : 192.168.1.1 (usually), the pass will prob be admin and admin or admin and passwordHere today, hospital tomorrow0

Sorry a dumb question probably - how do I connect to the router and rest to factory settings?
I have no idea what cable go goes where. I am cable modem with Virgin at moment directly connected to the PC0 -
ok, on the back of the router there should be a WAN port, connect the network cable from the cablemodem to this port, then there should be 1.2.3.4 ports on the back of the router also, connect a network cable from 1 to the computer. to reset it there will be a small button on the back, press it for 10 secs. Here today, hospital tomorrow0

The D-Link Router will want to behave as a router when powered up and will try to connect to an ISP and will fail. It wants to be boss and will argue with the cable modem when you connect them together (two males together). The D-Link will need calming down to be an access point only, done via the units configuration pages.0

you never need a disk to setup a router/modem, thats just for your ISP/router vendor to install junk software on your PC under the guise of 'helping' you get setup0

Thanks - will give it a crack today and let you know0

My router needed some drivers to be installed before I could use it... if it doesn't work then you might need to find the drivers, just search for the model number on Google and you can usually find them pretty easily.0

Real routers do not need any drivers. Modems, USB modems will, not routers they have their own firmware in them and run all by themselves with out a PC connected.0

Hi
Sorry been a bit manic in last few weeks so have not had a chance until today - managed to sort wires out as Gallstones earlier mentioned. And all the 'right' lights flashed on the wireless router. I even got a network connection detected bubble....
However on the PC it is connected to I could not get a net connection and also could not login to the router using the 192.168.0.1 address on the back of the router.....just got a page saying page could be displayed. Any further tips?0 -
you need to reset your cable modem
just turn everything off netbook, router and cable modem
1st turn on the cable modem
then the router and
then your netbook
it should then work you'll need to setup your wireless security from the config page of your router0
