  • I wouldnt buy anything from them again wouldnt recomend them to my worst enemy . My story is got a corner sofa with sound in March by April i had started having problems it wouldnt play music from our phones and also the front had come unstuck. There manager/lacky came out and said all you had to do was wiggle the phones about to get it to work and also just stuck the front on with super glue . A Month later it stopped working altogether no power getting to unit the same man came out and straight away tried to get out of fixing it blamed it on a prong being broken off ( this probably happend when we had to wiggle it to get it to work ). Then he said it was water damaged!!! this damage hasnt happened since i have had this. He said this time he would fix it as goodwill but then a few of the power lights came on so he said he couldnt even do this. And left without it still working.
Emailed csl as wasnt happy they called me back and said they could fix it for 200 pounds the unit only cost me 150 in the first place.
I am taking it further .

    No pressure,great quality and service.

What the chap didnt know about sofa and furniture construction probably wasnt worth knowing.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
  • Hi Doc Foster

Did you manage to get any satisfaction from CSL? My parents have exactly the same problem as you had and their sofa is just 6 months old. Someone from the company visited and bullied them into letting him do a 'repair' (they are 82 years old). It looks and feels a right mess. One of their customer service staff told my dad it could have been caused by products on his hair. He told her he was nearly bald & it seems that a bald head is even more damaging to their leather. Just trying to decide on next step - Trading Standards/ Small Claims Court. Is it even worth writing to the Chief Exec of the company?

I Purchased a Quebec Leather? 3 seater & 2 recliners in Jan 2010 at a cost of £2,200 from CSL Bolton,At the time of purchase the Salesman assured me that the leather was the best quality and was 100% Leather. The same quality as my previous purchase from Dfs (This suite is 8 years old and still in perfect condition)

All was good untill 2 years later the outer coating of the suite started to peel away at high level on the headrest area.

I have contacted csl about this and their first response was to ask for a £59.00 deposit before they would come out to look at the problem.

I emailed the chairman & his pa to no avail apparently he doesnt respond to Customers emails!

I then asked to speak to a manager about the issue!

They eventually got back to me and agreed to send somebody to inspect the sofa! He has suggested that incorrect care is the problem! He must have miraculous powers as he took no samples to be tested to confirm his suspicions! We have only cleaned the sofa with the csl wipes purchased with the sofa, so how can that be the case?

The problem I suspect is the quality of the coatings used on their leather. Corrected Grain Pigmented Leather is what they have sold me! Not 100% leather which I was told at time of purchase.

Apparently to use the term leather on furniture it only has to contain 80% leather,I was not aware of this fact! were you?

There are other reviews on the web where the flaking on the headrests has happened & csl are blaming sweat, hair oil! anything but their product. So dont sit on their sofas without putting your hat on! Buyer beware!!! I am currently still in dispute with csl :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
  • We experienced a few issues with CSL's Karma Chocolate sofa whereby the 'leather' on the rear headrest lightened, the arm filling reduced to a point where the wood could be felt and the chair seat cushion rubbed internally. The CSL engineer initially told me that the lightening was 'wear and tear' then on calling them after no response for two months, told us that the lightening was caused by the application of an external product. The suite at the time of the visit was 8 months old.
I wrote to CSL stating that I would not pay their £47 service charge and contacted Qualitas who are an independent ombudsman. I did not have to employ the services of the Ombudsman as CSL are exchanging the suite 'like for like'. Should there be issues with the new suite, it's the Ombudsman then County Court if necessary.
  • We bought our sofa just over a year ago from CSL sofas. It is a fabric sofa and not the kind we intended to buy originally. Was intent on buying a pocket sprung but liked the look of the Serena. Asked the sales person if the cushions will go flat after a while because they're not pocket sprung and she assured me, as long as we maintain them, they won't. Well guess what. We followed their instructions yet we're now left with flat cushions and a sofa which is too uncomfortable to use.

Had a call from them yesterday and all they could say was that it is not a fault and that it is normal. Since they looked OK when they were delivered and there is no foam coming out of it then there is no fault. Trying to explain to them that they are unusable and not fit for purpose after just a year was a pointless exercise. They're not interested in helping, don't waste your time.

I'm now looking at what other avenues I have to help me get a usable sofa for my money.

Avoid CSL Sofas if you want to use your sofa for more than a year before having to buy a new one!
  • I bought a sofa from them back at the start of August, was told it was a 72 hour delivery, didnt happen after lots of excuses, 4 weeks later the sofa arrived.
Lots of imperfections on the sofa itself, asked them to have a look at this, they sent a guy out on 24th September, who said the leather needs to be replaced and needed to be ordered and would be a couple of weeks, 9 weeks later and serveral calls and emails later i am still waiting!!!
Clearly they have my money well over £3000, why would they bothered?!!
Wish i would of listened to the watchdog reviews on them, and gone to DFS instead!!
Can assure you i would never shop there again and i would advise anyone else to do they same!
  • I have just bought a corner sofa from CSL(now known as Sofa Works) I have had it six weeks and already two of the seats are dipping, and one of them was creaking. On contacting CSL on their customer service number, they were very helpfull and immediatley sent out their upholsterer to have a look at my couch, on arrival he asked what the problem was and i told him, he explained to me that the reason the seats were dipping was because this was called settlement? he then took the bottom of the couch and managed to fix the creaking problem (which was staples rubbing on the wood) I then asked him to reboost my cushions for me and he refused saying he was not allowed to do this, as it was against manufacturers speculation, he said he would put a report into head office about my concerns regarding the dipping. The guy was still sitting outside in his car when head office phoned me the said ' sorry you are unhappy about the settlement on your corner unit, but unfortunatley this is what happens '?? but we cannot reboost your cushions as this is against the manufacturers speculation. i then replied that if i had been told about this when i was buying the corner unit i would never have bought it, she then said ' well..... I WASNT present at the sale so i cant say what was said ( in other words she thinks im a liar) According to the upholsters report there was no manufacturers fault ! I then said , so what happens now, she said nothing happens sorry your not happy. i put the phone down on her, and im raging as i paid 2500 for this corner unit. I thought i was getting what I sat on in the showroom (same qaulity i mean) but instead iv got a corner unti that sits 7 ppl with two saggy seats !!!!!

could you possibly let me know how you get on with this. Many thanks.
  • Hi guys, glad I found this thread...

My in-laws purchased a leather suite from CSL 13 months ago for a couple of thousand pounds. After about 11 months they noticed what appeared to be the coloured coating peeling from the sofa. They didn't mention anything at first then last month when they told me I contacted CSL about it. By this time it was 13 months old, out of warranty but they had the extra protection plan for 3 or 5 years and regardless of all that, I would expect the sofa to last a lot longer than a year.

Anyway we contacted CSL, they cam out and had a look and the fanciful story they came back with was "the peeling is due to oils in your skin affecting the leather" and basically they won't repair it. What an absolute JOKE!

For one, the peeling is all over the sofa and not just on the arms where bare skin might contact it so there's a hole in that story and two, there is no peeling on the sofa which gets used as much as the chair so that again blows a hole in any excuse they come up with.... basically its just a shoddy quality sofa!

Anyway I have contacted the MD of CSL and will take this to the ombudsman and small claims if necessary and will come back to update.

I wouldn't recommend anyone buy from CSL though, just check their facebook page comments to see hundreds or even thousands that have had problems with them and the excuses they come out with to get around fixing problems....
