Buying a sofa from CSL

I've seen a sofa that i like at the company CSL and was planning on ordering it tomorrow but i have just come online and read lots of really bad reviews on both the company and their sofas.

Would like to know if anyone has bought from CSL and what their experience was like.

Or could anyone recommend another sofa store, i've already looked in DFS, Harveys and SCS but they all seem to have terrible reviews.

Thanks

My parents bought a leather three piece quite from SCS and paid over three years. It was broken after 1. The thing just came apart at the seams and SCS wouldnt fix it.

    OP

Just type CSLSOFAS + COMPLAINTS into google and then make up your own mind.

I had the unfortunate experience to buy a sofa from them, it took over a year and the small claims court to get a refund.

CSL are as corrupt as legalised pirates. I would avoid at all costs, their customer service record is as bad as it gets.

Don’t get me wrong some of the furniture is nice, and may do you well but if you do have any issues 9 times out of 10 you’re on your own and the other time you have to really fight to get anything resolved.

My last dealing with CSL ended in trading standards, consumer direct and CEO complaint so take caution when dealing with this Firm

Did anyone see the Mary Portas thing on TV last night?
Heck of a risk CSL took, but it definately paid off for them - the website was very slow last night.
Personally, I've always hated the way that these companies market their stuff, with the constant sales, etc - does anyone fall for that now? I notice that CSL have now made a point of taking these away.
I've always used local, established shops for this kind of purchase. Last time we got a similar sofa as the big boys were selling, for way under their 'sale' price. It's lasted years too.
I can't see you take any more of a risk either - the big shops go out of business too.
I was surprised at delivery too - my local shop did it in a week - the others wanted weeks.

Also I couldn't find the complaints websites that was featured on the show last night :D

We got a sofa from CSL about 4 months ago and couldn't have been happier with them.

They didn't bother us in the shop whilst we were looking around, only asked once if we needed any help.

When we went back to buy it they tried to sell us cushion cleaners, insurance etc, which we didn't want, but they went on a bit, still we didn't want it. Paid for the sofa and it was delivered 2 days later (one of their 72hour delivery guarantees). The guys delivered it, put it in place and put it together, it was a corner sofa.

Very pleased with it so far, no damage.

I found the Mary Portas program interesting, I have only bought from DFS, was pleased with the service, delivery & quality of our sofa, still going strong with numerous cats and dogs all jumping on it, after 10 years.

  • I Purchased a Quebec Leather? 3 seater & 2 recliners in Jan 2010 at a cost of £2,200 from CSL Bolton,At the time of purchase the Salesman assured me that the leather was the best quality and was 100% Leather. The same quality as my previous purchase from Dfs (This suite is 8 years old and still in perfect condition)

All was good untill 2 years later the outer coating of the suite started to peel away at high level on the headrest area.

I have contacted csl about this and their first response was to ask for a £59.00 deposit before they would come out to look at the problem.

I emailed the chairman & his pa to no avail apparently he doesnt respond to Customers emails!

I then asked to speak to a manager about the issue!

They eventually got back to me and agreed to send somebody to inspect the sofa! He has suggested that incorrect care is the problem! He must have miraculous powers as he took no samples to be tested to confirm his suspicions! We have only cleaned the sofa with the csl wipes purchased with the sofa, so how can that be the case?

The problem I suspect is the quality of the coatings used on their leather. Corrected Grain Pigmented Leather is what they have sold me! Not 100% leather which I was told at time of purchase.

Apparently to use the term leather on furniture it only has to contain 80% leather,I was not aware of this fact! were you?

There are other reviews on the web where the flaking on the headrests has happened & csl are blaming sweat, hair oil! anything but their product. So dont sit on their sofas without putting your hat on! Buyer beware!!! I am currently still in dispute with csl :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I don't blame you..they look like a right bunch of cowboys to me (in my opinion..etc etc)

That Mary Porteous thing ended up a total con - everything they worked out, CSL have used to their advantage, and reneged on.
No constant Sales? - they made a fanfare about that, and only took a few months to go back on it.
Able to 'try out' the Sofa and send it back if it's not right? You have to pay for this privilege, I see off the advert.

For a 2 year old Sofa, I think you'll get it replaced, it's obviously not up to its job - you just need to keep on with it - I'm sure you could go to court with that one, if you've tried all avenues, and given them a chance to sort it (it's not as difficult a process as you think, if you haven't done it before). I doubt you'll get much off the CEO, re good will, he looked like an opportunist to me.

I managed to get a replacement from IKEA, after 3 and a half years, even away from any guarantee - they were very good.

Good luck, and before anyone says anything, I know they're not breaking any laws, they can do what they like etc, but unfortunately, people keep going to these rip off merchants, and I have a right to comment on them!
  • I wish I had seen this website before! We have just had our sofa delivered to find that it is far too big!
When we shopped for our sofa I took in a detailed plan of our living room & armed with this plan the lovely salesman measured the sofa for us & guarenteed us that it would fit where we wanted it! So remembering his words that if we weren't happy with it...for ANY reason we could simply ring them up & get it changed (no charge was explained by the way!) I have now been told that I need to pay £198 for redelivery!

Not only that but there is a price difference of £408 to which we've been told we will only be able to have a credit note to spend it store....and low & behold we can't use this to pay the delivery charge! I feel like this is not our fault, through the salesman being 'helpful' we trusted him to measure correctly & he didn't! I have spoken to the store & to the customer service department & they will not accept liability for this.

    What can I do???

To top it off they haven't delivered the lamp we purchased, so we're also chasing that up!
