I have downloaded and installed the Beta version of Office 2010 but have not yet inserted the product key.

I have my 2007 version which still runs and contains vital information which is very important to me. i don want to be forced into the positinj of trying to read pst files as all my work is filed carefull and I would rather uninstal 2010 than risk losing this ordered system.

Is it possible to run two versions of Office (obviously not at the same time) I have a hard drive on my local area network and if necessary, this could be moved on to the hard disk.

I am doing this because the upgrade seems to eliminate all the vital subfolders I have created in 2007 Can anyone advise please?

Office 2010 beta mucks around with 2007 installation (at least it did when I tried once). Best to avoid doing anything till it gets released retail. Or use it on a machine that doesn't have other office software on it.

I have Office 2007 and Office 10 Beta running on the same machine with no problems.

The Office 10 did make itself the default app for opening Office docs but it is no big shakes.

Having said that, if I had critical data I hadn't already backed up I wouldn't be so flagrant with installing stuff just to play with.

Yeah they both work together but problem comes when you try to uninstall the beta, it can leave 2007 in an unfit state. At least it did for me and had to carry out a repair to fix it.

I have uninstalled 2007 completely & switched to the 2010 beta. So far I have had no issues at all. If I find any big problems, I will probably just uninstall & then reinstall office 2007, but its been a couple of months now with no problems at all

It's very unlikely that the installation will have deleted your existing folders/subfolders. It's far more likely that Office 2010's default location for storing documents is different than you were using with 2007, and you just need to browse about a bit to point it at the correct location.

The beta version has not destroyed my 2007 folders and sub-folders!! thank goodness, they are all in a folder called office 2007.

Now I just need to find an elegant method for Office 2010 to "see" the folders and sub-folders; I'm not feeling terribly confident about this!! but thanks everyone so much fir all your assistance so far!

You can set where it looks for files in the Options menu item.

I don't have 2010, but in earlier versions, all you need to do is go to Tools, Options, File Locations, highlight the "Documents" entry and change it to point to your Word 2007 folder. It will be similar in 2010.

It looks so different, there doesn't seem to be a tools, options, menu any more? I'll go and have another look, but its a strange unfamiliar place!!!

Easily edited in Office 10 Beta (once you find the Options screen lol )

To find the Options screen, Open a new document, on the left is a navigation pane,
Click the little drop down arrow next to the magnifying glass, Options

there is probably an easier way but this bad boy is going to take some getting used to!!!

It seems a bit cumbersome; I don't really need to save all my old emails in Word format, just import the 2007 emails so that I can see/use them in 2010 version?

I do agree that it is a hum dinger of a bad boy though!!
