Insurance write off - how much do you think?!

It should make no difference whether the children were in the car at the time or not. Once a car has been in a collision child's car seats are rendered unusable, as correctly stated above, as they sustain internal damage which causes them to be unsafe for future use.
So the insurance co should pay for the child seat(s).
In terms of the offer for the car, the myth that you should 'always refuse the first offer' is incredible. I used to work in the claims dept of a large insurance company and can assure you that most insurance companies make an offer which reflects the market value of the car at the time of the accident. Some people may think the offer is too low as everyone thinks their car is worth more than it is!
If you feel the offer is on the low side then your best bet is to speak to the insurer and explain why you think the car is worth more, ad's from auto trader etc always helps and at the very least the insurer will go away and look at the case again.0 -
I hope that if you are claiming for new child car seats you will be disposing of the seats you have.
If the basis of the claim is that they may have internal damage, I hope for everyones sake they don't end up on ebay!0
