I'd say if you are going with this make sure the student has spares of everything (camera, lenses, batteries, cards, flashguns etc), to insure nothing gets in the way of getting your photographs.

The client really shouldn't be checking equipment lists.

Well of course I know that, but some photographers on their websites reassure that spares of everything are brought along. When you are having a consultation with a wedding photographer it's best to find out exactly what you are paying for and what will be provided. Knowing what would happen in an emergency where equipment stops working or gets broken is a reassurance.

What I meant was is if you are going with a student and paying a low price, check they have spares because not everyone does. It will help you make an informed decision whether or not to choose them. I was just offering some friendly advice tbh, it would be the worst case scenario if equipment stopped working and there were no spares

Taking a chance may be fine for the odd bit of portraiture but not for '"that special day".

Have you checked out their work ? it is very poor.

Hence why I put 'take a chance' in quotation marks, as I don't think it's always a great risk. You'll be very surprised at the number of people who book wedding photographers without shopping around, or without that much care. I've heard people saying things along the lines of 'oh yeah our wedding photos were crap and the guy who did it was really unfriendly and rushed it all..' - it makes me shocked that they wouldn't meet the person beforehand, get a personal recommendation or speak to them on the phone to gauge their personality. Personality of the photographer is really important as if you're uncomfortable having your photographs taken it will come across in the images.

In terms of the work from this company - I guess that is why they are offering low prices in order to tempt in people who are on low budgets so they can build up their portfolio as there isn't much there.

It's not the paucity of images , its their quality that is shockingly bad.

So what's the catch? There isn't one! All we ask is that we have full use of your images for our own commercial rights.

All photographers own the copyright anyway.

That is not true it depends on the contract.

An example I was contracted to take photo's of Steps some time back and the copyright belonged to their management company not me. But then I was paid to give up my copyright on them.
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

 That is a bit of a shocking price, people always say my wedding photography prices are low but never ever that low otherwise I'd be paying people to take their wedding photos!

Sadly you really do get what you pay for in the wedding business and if you want to treasure your wedding photographs it's worth paying the extra! (and making sure you see a full portfolio from one single wedding shoot rather then the best shots from a selection of different weddings!)

Wedding photography isn't just taking photographs on the day, you have the equipment to pay for and sadly faults do occur so spares of everything are often necessary (speaking from experience!) expenses, insurance, advertising (which usually cost around £1000 per table at wedding fairs) plus most photographers will edit the individual photographs as opposed to batch editing so takes time which costs money!

£200 odd will not cover their costs unless they're just starting out so looking for experience to build a portfolio with cheaper equipment and then batch-editing - I wonder how much the expenses are for non-local weddings?
    Wins so far:

I would suggest asking other married couples how often they actually look at those very expensive wedding photos. I can guess that 99 out of 100 will say "never".

I had my mum and my best friend take photos at my wedding and got some lovely shots. One of those shots is in a frame and the rest are in an album that I forget about most of the time. This cost me £0.00. I'm sure that if I'd spent £1000 on wedding photos that I'd still have one in a frame and the rest in an album that I rarely, if ever, look at.

In my experience 'you get what you pay for' - some wedding photographers charge ridiculous amounts and are terrible photographers, but then there are those at the other end of the scale who are 'worryingly' cheap. Remember you're not just paying for a photographer's time, but also their talent.

I would go with a recommendation above all else - I know of a really talented weeding photographer who has been used by several of my friends and comes highly recommended: Courtney Louise Photography

If you check out their work, you'll see EXACTLY why they are so cheap.
    Buyer beware.

I'm no expert (my amateur photographer cousin took the photos at my wedding and I was very happy with them!) but the photos in the maternity section of the gallery on their website do not look like professional shots to me :o
