Doesn't strike me as particularly cheap. Their costs in all the stuff they provide will be under £75, £100+ for a day's work.
  • I'd suggest you go get some quotes if you're getting married soon.

A decent set of Wedding photos will set you back £1500.

They are WORRINGLY cheap. Most wedding snappers I know charge from £850-£3000 a wedding.
You get what you pay for.

You couldn't get a plumber for £100 a day. You're paying for the photographer's experience and artistry not to mention his rather expensive equipment PLUS good post production work can take two or three days.
A wedding day's photography can last 12 hours. So for 12 hours plus 24 hours post production, this lot are charging Around £3/hour. Crazy!
  • Yup, I paid £1000 7 years ago and thats with me bartering them down couple of hundred quid. Sounds like a great find OP.....

The alternative to offering inexpensive shoots to build a portfolio is to hire a venue and models which is very expensive plus it's not a real experience, the wedding couple get an inexpensive photography session and the photographer gets his shots for the web or where ever. If the couple were not having a photographer because the budget wasn't there this is a great compromise. No photographer with half a brain would offer this if they didn't feel they were competent especially on a national website, we all have to start with our first whatever it is we do but rest assured they will have taken photos before!

That isn't true at all. I shoot weddings and depending on location the costs involved can easily go to well over £100. Also it's not 'a days work' at all, there are the consultation visits, the viewings, the whole wedding day and around quite full two days editing to do.

That is the problem with some people, they just see what they get in the end result and don't think of everything else that's involved.

Photographers need to pay for (VERY EXPENSIVE) equipment, insurance, website costs, overheads, tax, national insurance, travel, and then possibly printing/book charges. They also need to build in a rate so they actually make something from it. Also - I am just finishing a degree in Photography so the costs involved in that obviously reach into the £1000s clearly, and i'll need to pay back the student loan eventually.

That said, i'm building up my portfolio and I charge slightly more than the costs listed here. It sounds as if the person doing the offer is also wanting to be able to use the images as they like on websites, leaflets etc for advertisements so is offering a lower rate in exchange for this.

Not all cheap wedding photography is 'worryingly cheap', i've had several satisfied customers and I don't charge over the odds atm, just trying to nudge myself into the market so don't be quick to judge.

The problem is that if you start charging low rates it can make it difficult to then increase your rates at a later point ,or if you do,you'll eventually be undercut with the next student on their way.

If you check out their work, you'll see EXACTLY why they are so cheap.
    Buyer beware.

That is true but you need to break into market, and can't charge same as other established photographers.

This is how you get the business really, all the photographers I know built up how much they charge and it's just accepted. Once the business is generated and people recommend you, their friends and family will usually be happy to pay extra.

Getting undercut by another student is obviously a possibility, but from my experience, not everyone is willing to trust a person with less experience for their wedding anyway. I've been to several consultations where clients have been seeing several photographers in order to make a choice, and if they have a higher budget they are more likely to choose the photographer who's had 20 years experience or whatever. People with lower budgets will often 'take a chance' on a starter/student, though many students are excellent anyway, and have built up experience through being an assistant/second shooter.

I'd say if you are going with this make sure the student has spares of everything (camera, lenses, batteries, cards, flashguns etc), to insure nothing gets in the way of getting your photographs.

Taking a chance may be fine for the odd bit of portraiture but not for '"that special day".

Have you checked out their work ? it is very poor.
