My better half is so skilled at leaving the hair straighteners on that I got a special timer adaptor which they are plugged in via. You press a button on it and it switches the power on for max. 30 minutes in this case (its programmable).

Also we went to see relatives once, drove near 110 miles when she declared she was sure she had left the iron on, a steam generator with a big boiler! Fearing what could happen I dropped them off and drove 110 miles home again..to find it was in fact OFF. Then drove 110 miles back to relatives to collect them.

Lesson 1 - we changed the iron to a better Bosch which switches off itself if not used for 35 minutes.

Lesson 2 - we now made sure a nearby friend has a spare key, it would have been so much easier to have been able to phone and ask them to pop in and check!
European for 3 weeks in August, the rest of the year only British and proud.

I left my iron on for 2 weeks while we were on holiday. I was 16 at the time and not too popular when we got back. No idea what the cost of it was

I seriously think they should build these into hair straighteners. In a shared house we had a small fire because of this, and I've been with someone who, once 150 miles from home, decided they had left them on, turned back, and not only found they weren't switched on, they had packed them into the boot of the car!

Why did you want to work out how much it cost OP. Are you intending charging her? :rotfl:

Was all the water gone out of the iron or was there still some left?

    Hi,

don't think it would need to be a special timer, any plug in timer would do.
