If the iron is thermostatically controlled then it wouldn't have been continually using power. Just topping up to maintain temp. I don't think you'l notice the cost on your bill

Someone else up late too. LOL !!!!!

    Yeh. It is I guess.

    Its 2400w so for 24 hrs this works out at 2.4kw/hr x 24 = 57.6 X 9.77p per kwh = £5.62. Does this sound about right?

Although, like you said, once its at full temp its just maintaining this rather than full power.

As you have calculated the cost would be quite high if it were continually using power i.e. like an electric fire. However if it's just keeping the sole plate at a given temp then it's not going to be as bad. It pales into insignificance when you consider what could have happened if it had been left face down on a combustible surface.

Time for bed for me. I didn't realise how late it was!

    Hi,

your calculation seems right, but, was it set at maximum, hot, medium, or cool, then allowing for the thermostat cutting in and out you were maybe only using half a unit an hour, so not as much as £5.62.

If you really want to know you could set it up again, in a safe position, at the same setting and leave it on for a day using one of these,

£5.62 is only about 2 pints of lager , so a bit less bevvy today, and you're square. :rotfl:

Even if it works out a tenner, you have had a result,:D as it could have been worse, the whole house could have fused, blown up, started a fire etc, so I wouldnt worry about the extra, just thank your lucky stars it didnt cause any damage.

I left my iron on for 2 weeks while we were on holiday. I was 16 at the time and not too popular when we got back. No idea what the cost of it was
