  • hi,thankyou to everyone who posted helpful hints on my previous post a few days ago. I thought we were doing well with daisy but last night she decided to poo in the other bedroom again!!. My niece and nephew arrived for a sleepover just a few minutes before and im wondering if that could have caused it (any ideas please) is it possible for a 7yr old and 10 yr old to have that effect on a wee kitten?.
She wee's in the litter tray no problem but thats twice now shes decided to give it a miss.
She is a lovely character, is always wanting to play so im not really cross with her but its aproblem that i would like to sort sooner than later.
My friend that i got the kitten from has kept the brother he is called smudge and apparantly he also is weeing in the tray no problem but occasionally forgets when pooing:rolleyes:

Yes, It is probable that the excited kids arriving would have that effect!

Remember that the kitten has just been taken from it's mum and siblings, taken in a strange car, to a new place, with new people and is now required to wee and poo in a tray every time without fail! All pretty scary stuff! She will need time to adjust and get used to her new surroundings, and learn where to go.

If in doubt, about her reaction, I'd keep her in the room where the litter tray is, and then introduce her to the kids when they're calm and quiet. I can imagine how excited they were about seeing a new kitten! :)

  • hi, yes they were VERY excited and of course both wanted to hold her at the same time!!But this morning they seem much calmer and daisy seems happy playing with them;)

My cats are 14 and still poop in various corners occasionally - we don't have a tray though, because they are outside cats, so that usually happens when we all leave the house and forget to put one of them out.

However, my male cat does go to the trouble of widdling in the bath/shower
We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment

Our kitten did this behind the tv and we shut him in for a couple of days so he could not roam the house freely until he had the message - try putting a tray in other rooms maybe - they are just young and forget - bit like a wee child forgetting to ask to go wee wee!. He will learn ok - just dont be angry with him - he is just a wee baby. Sounds like she is a big hit and you love her to bits.
Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j
  • yes shes been a huge hit since she arrived.Shes having a snooze on the couch at the moment right next to my head!!:D
  • Hiya congrats on your kittens - we have just rehomed three - two were dumped at a vets (Bob and Misty) and one was born in a stairwell of a block of flats (Diesel). Here is a picccie:

This morning I have cleaned up poo which the one did by the side of the tray, he is exceptionally fussy about his litter tray and will only use if it is spotless. I also find that all 3 tend to poo just after eating so I keep them shut out in the utility area just after food and find they do the business. Sometimes I will stay and put the grey one into his tray and he will then do it straightaway as he is the one most likely to miss his tray !

I have 4 children under 12 who absolutely adore the kittens but so far after from trying to climb up the wallpaper they have been great fun !

  • The joys of kittenhood!! I adopted a bundle about a month ago and she is pooing and weeing on target but the sheer amount of times she goes in a day is staggering  !! She is a pooing and weeing machine! The only problem I'm having though is that she often needs her bum wiping!!!! Sorry for being so yucky so early on a Sunday but if I don't catch her she'll then leave little bum prints all over the house  ! She also has a beautiful habit of stepping in it as she is trying to cover it meaning that I also get paw prints everywhere. Such a joy! Wouldn't change her for the world though but she is getting so big so quickly - her legs have grown quicker than her body and she looks like a lanky teenager at the mo :rotfl:

Good luck with Daisy and enjoy her whilst she is still little! :D
May the fleas of a thousand camels infest the crotch of the person who screws up your day and may their arms be too short to scratch...:D
  • Ha waterlilyann I can empathise with you, the grey kitty "Diesel" was trapped by a rescue home as his mum was feral. They never caught the mum but got Diesel and his 2 siblings who were then subsequently hand reared. The first time I met Diesel he was covered in poo - and was just coming out of a bath. This tiny scrap of a kitten looked like a drowned rat but I just fell in love. Just before he joined us his "sensitivity" problem was quite serious and he was in isolation for awhile with vaseline being applied daily to his rear end.

As a consequence, he does not have the cleaning skills of our 2 other kittens and will tap dance through the litter tray and yes I have been following him around to wipe his bum too. Last week though, I noticed that our 2 kittens who are around 5 weeks older than have have started cleaning him too and hopefully this will encourage him to do it himself. When he initially joined us too he over ate but now with the kiddies and distractions we find he is eating the same as the over two.

Yes op, good luck with Daisy - our tabby cat died after 16 lovely years with us and in the few weeks that I did not have a cat around the house felt far too empty.
