T-mobile internet FUP

This query is related to T-mobiles "unlimited" internet on Pay Monthly planbs,

Why is there a 1GB Fair Usage Policy for BlackBerry phones, but a 3GB FUP for Android phones? It seems really unfair.

It's worse than that, as you get 3GB internet with an Android phone and then you get one of the boosters. On a non-android phone, you have to use your booster for 1GB internet, but with an android phone you can use the booster for unlimited text or something else.

Only thing to be aware of is the 3GB is only available if you purchase direct from T-mobile and it doesn't count if you go through a retailer.

I really hate the new T-mobile plans because they either offer unlimited internet OR texts and as you've stated, you've got to use a booster to get the other thing unlimited. I liked their old Flext/Combi plans as they were so much more flexible.

They're online all the time? That seems like too obvious a flaw for the manufacturers of the phones and/or the android OS to get wrong (without giving users the option to turn 3G off or switch to wi-fi where there is a wi-fi connection), because of the impact on data usage for networks. Bah hambug!

I'm on T-Mobile with an Android phone (a Google Nexus One).

I'm on their rolling 30 day £15 a month SIM only contract. 350 mins, 300 texts and flexible booster.

I do not have unlimited internet and another booster. When I phoned up T-Mobile to enquire about prices etc, I was told the "Android internet" takes the place of your flexible booster, and usually costs £5 more per month. They offered to waive the extra £5pm if I signed up then, so I accepted.

As for the always on connection - it is always on, but that doesn't mean it's always transferring data for the hell of it. That would absolutely kill your battery. And as for switching to wifi when available - of course it does, why wouldn't it?? You could disable the data connection if you wished, and have a "normal" or wifi-only phone.

Just like other phones the amount of data you use depends on how much you use the internet. I don't know why T-Mobile think Android phones need 3GB a month data, I would find it hard to reach 1GB in a month. But it's certainly not an extra-free-middle-finger-up-to-blackberry-users bonus, as on my tariff at least, they make you pay extra for it.

May be that is specific to your 30 day contract, but certainly the 24 month contracts on the Android phones come with 3GB internet and a booster.

Did you buy the phone through T-mobile direct? I am guessing probably not.

I have a feeling this is only available if you buy (phone and 18/24 months contract) direct from T-mobile.

It would be great if someone could prove me wrong though!

I have seen a great deal with buymobilephones.net which is far better than what t-mobile are offering direct, but you don't get the 3GB internet.

I went direct to T-Mobile. You probably do get more for 18/24 month contracts, that would make sense. But more than the equivalent you get for Blackberry or other phones? I don't know, it would be odd if that were the case.

I had to phone them up for this, as there's no information about the "Android internet" booster for 30 day contracts on their website.
