Will any 3 PAYG dongle work with the PAYG SIM Card or should I be looking for a particular one?

    Cheers

Any 3 mobile SIM will work with any 3 mobile dongle.

Yes, or alternatively use a 3g phone handset (using a data cable or bluetooth).

Incidentally, the O2 payg dongle URL="http://shop.o2.co.uk/promo/o2mobilebroadband/tab/Pay_and_Go"]here for £9.99[/URL is usually supplied unlocked.

No, it's locked. Will cost you seven euros to unlock it.

All well and good, but just to warn you. I work with these things, and the coverage is the main thing.

Make sure you have 3G coverage wherever you are going to use it, otherwise you are guarenteed to have issues.

Just a word to the wise.

Even if you actually HAVE 3G coverage, it can vanish at anytime in the future. I had 3G HSDPA from 3UK for weeks without any service problems from a solid signal, and experienced 400 - 500k speeds at nearly all times of day, which although not the 1mb+ which others had experienced was still perfectly usable.

However since work was carried out on the local transmitter on 12th May, 3UK Mobile Broadband has vanished completely from this area, and 'service' (laugh) has been reduced to Orange 2G GPRS service which 3 roams too when 3G isn't available, and this is about half the speed of conventional 56k DIAL UP, and even getting the google logo to load takes about 15 seconds.

More worryingly is talk on the 3G forums which hint that some 3UK transmitters may have actually been de-comissioned in some areas. I'm now concerned that this may be the issue in my case.

So just remember that even if you have 3UK service in your area today and access to 3G speeds, it may NOT be the case tomorrow!. So certainly avoid any long term contract and DO NOT RELY on '3uk' if you require a reliable 'always available' connection

Basically Mobile Broadband in the UK should be considered 'The last ditch saloon', an entity which only should be considered if you are a very light, occasional internet user and when ALL other options have failed or been evaluated, because it is a desperate and lonely place to be!!

Remember that its only a good deal if you can actually use it!.
