Hi all,

I have just had an electricity bill land on the doormat, bad news!

We are in a 3 bed semi and pay £35 a month for gas heating and water, and until now £35 a month for electricity. Now they want to put the electricty up to £75 a month....this seems excessive but maybe I am out of touch?

I am just wondering, how much everyone else pays per month.

I pay £35 per month DD for electric but I'm currently over £200 in credit. I can't be bothered to ask for a refund as I'm happy knowing I'm covered for the whole of winter even if it's a cold one again.

It would be extremely helpful if you posted the actual amount that are using in kWH for your electricity and gas then we would be able to assist you further.

I'm not sure about kwh as my bill only uses units, but it says from 27 March to 1 May we used 687 units, and at 7p per unit that equtes to £48.

I'm sure its right, but I was more wondering if we are using a lot more electricity than others.

    Hi

DD was £40 a month (£20 gas and electric). Received a bill early April-£135.02 debit. After reading some posts on here about DDs doubling, spoke to Npower. Now I pay £54 a month DD (elec £36 and gas £18), Hope to clear the debit in a couple of months.

Posts on here have made me realise I need to make sure my consumption matches my monthly direct debits.

Thanks everyone. I've learnt a lot on here. If only I could persuade my neighbour to query his Scottish Power electric bill. The bill has no meter readings just asks him to pay £48 a month.

Units of electricity are measured in Kilowatt Hours, you say you have used 687 kwh in 5 weeks, which would be around 20kwh a day. ( I use around 8 kwh per week in a 3 bed semi with gas CH)
Do you have an immersion heater on 24 hours a day.
Or was one off the figures estimated and you are now catching up?

PS Electricity @ 7 p a unit is very low, its usually around 14p, you could be looking at a night rate figure.

Mine is £30 per month for electricity. This is for me living alone, with gas ch & hot water. I have an electric fan oven which is rarely used and a gas hob.

When I first set up the dd I was asked to pay £37 per month, but then they reduced it after about 6 months to the £30 I now pay.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

    Thank for the reply. :)

Hmmm, I've had another look on the bill and definately only says "units", there is no reference to kwh at all.

We don't have an immersion heater, or a water tank, the boiler heats the water as it comes through so its not that.
Dh works from home so there is a pc and printer on all day, it must be that, and him boiling the kettle a couple of times.

7p a unit is correct, I moved us onto a new online tariff.

Thanks for all your help guys, maybe I should invest in a smart meter and see whats what. :)

OUrs is £25 elec and £55 gas. There are 2 of us.
The water is where we've made the biggest saving after having a meter fitted.

(7 or 8p per unit is not an unusual price.)
