Hi I am in need of 4 tyres (185 / 60 R14 H82).

the cheapest fully fitted price for 4 - I can find for a good brand "Courier (by Pirelli) K Drive" is £169 from https://www.blackcircles.com . Their budget brand is £150

Quidco offers 2.5%

Can anyone suggest any better options ?

I only do approx 5,000 miles a year - and want something decent - after all it is on a car (with safety and all that)... Im a bit nervous about those part worn tyres... unless someone can educate me - those will cost me £60 in total... so over £100 in saving... hmm...

I just bought 2 Kumho KH15 from blackcircles. Too early to recommend, but they seem good, although I would probably have gone for the KH17 if they had them in the size I needed, they both get good reports, and the KH17 are "energy savers". I would have gone for the Michelin Energy that we had last time, but they have gone stupidly expensive (even from Costco)
(Kumho 769 get bad reviews though)

    That's £125 all in.
Blackcircles are £132.58 for two for the same tyres, and if you get 5% off thats £125 95.
I'd go for blackcircles and have the full warranty on the tyres, and not even have to get my hands dirty putting them in the boot to drive there.

I bought two KH17's from Blackcircles last month. Went back last week for another two and they have stopped stocking them in my size :(

Customer service said they would have them back in on 13th but as of yet they haven't.

Part worns can be safe but you'd have to inspect them carefully. I think they are false economy though, if you can afford new ones you might as well buy them. The only time I have bought part worns was when I was a skint student.

All tyre prices are set to rise because the cost of raw materials has double in the past year, so if you're hanging off to get a few more miles I'd not wait....

I'd not use part worns as I don't know where they've been...like buying a second hand child seat for the car, really, I've no equipment to see what's happened to it that I don't know about it.

Remember energy saver tyres will save you money on petrol/diesel so one tyre will pay for itself over time.

I'd not go for cheap brands either, but that's just my humble opinion. I know how difficult it can be to manufacture good quality tyres, I don't think the lower brands have to worry about their reputation if they don't get it right every tyre.;)

All the second hand cars I ever bought came with part worn tyres, and they've all been ok.
But I have to agree I'd think twice about second hand off the car , but they're normally easy to inspect before you buy.

Do you know what you are looking for when you inspect them? I have seen illegal tyres which at first glance look fine - loads of tread, nice and shiny, not perished etc... They just happen to have worn down below the limit in one small spot due to a fault on the car - not easy to spot if you dont know what you are looking for. Also, would you know what to look for on the INSIDE of the tyre? Even a small amount of 'bruising' on the inner sidewalls could lead to a blowout, yet it looks pretty innocuous to the untrained eye.

I wouldn't go for a part worn unless I was skint, and I know what things to look out for!
