Can an O2 dongle be used in Turkey

I have an O2 dongle which is still in the box as I bought it through Nectar on the points deal.
I will be spending about 6 weeks over a year in Turkey and wondered whether I could use the dongle to access the internet using a Turkcell sim card.
Any help would be appreciated as I am totally techno phobic :o
Thanks

Thank you to all that post & contribute, I think you are wonderful, I could not achieve without your help :)

Which model? Try to put a SIM other than an O2 SIM into the dongle. Tell us which SIM you will use and we will try to find the appropriate connection settings.

Be careful, it was on the BBC news today that someone had used their's for 5 days when they were caught abroad because of the volcanic ash and they've just got a bill for over £7,000 as it's classed as mobile usage and charged same as using your mobile abroad.

Wow 7K for accessing the internet. Not really looking for a bill like that, lol.
Thanks for all the replies. I may take it with me & hopefully find someone that can let me know whether it can be used out there.

If it's the Huawei E160 that has been on offer, this isn't network locked, so works with any SIM. Probably others aren't locked either, but check

Other Turkish networks are Avea and Vodafone

Have a read up about using Turkish Sims in a foreign mobile device

    http://www.turkeytravelplanner.com/details/Communications/sim_cards.html

I don't know about internet dongles, but as far as mobile phones are concerned, if you use a foreign phone on a Turkish mobile network, you MUST register the handset. If you don't, then your Turkish sim may work for a few days or a week, but after a short time it will be blocked and you will have the inconvenience and expense of having it unblocked - the cost is about the same as buying a cheap turkish mobile.

The easiest thing, if you wish to use a mobile in Turkey, is either to roam using your UK phone/sim which is expensive; to use one of the global sims in an unlocked handset, or to buy a turkish mobile and sim, if you are likely to be there long/often enough to make it worth your while.

I don't know if the same applies to dongles. I also don't know how expensive a Turkish dongle is. But it is certainly worth making some enquiries before going down the english dongle/turkish sim route.
