Cat Hit & Run

The people who want the law changed want to be careful what they wish for, if the law was changed you would be responsible for any damage your cat does.
In this case the driver could sue the OP for damage to his/her car and because you didn't have your cat under control he/she would win the case, but the law says cats are feral animals so cat owners get away with paying for the damage they cause. If at first you don't succeed, maybe bomb disposal isn't the best career choice.0 -

I think this is a good point. Cat owners shrug their shoulders when cats go to toilet in their neighbours garden, tear up plants and generally cause a nusiance but then want compensation if someone hits their cat. Cats wonder around while dogs should be on a lead or trained to walk to heel.
I am really sorry for the OP but even at 30mph there is little you can do if a cat dashes out infront of you from under a parked car.0 -
I hit a cat a few years ago, There was nothing I could, it just darted across the road right in front of me. I slammed on my brakes but couldnt avoid it.
It was rush hour so there were quite a few cars about. I pulled over and a couple of other drivers did to. The women that was driving behind me was a wife of a policeman. She phoned him to see if I had to do anything, but he said you only have to report hitting a dog, theres nothing to do for cats. The cat went off into a garden somewhere never to be seen again.
Hope your cat gets well.Comping again0 -

A few years ago I was involved in a three car pile up caused by a dog on the loose that darted across a busy duel carraigeway, causing the two cars in front of me to brake.I clipped the back wing of the middle car.
The PSNI wanted to see if we knew where the dog came from so they could prosecute the owners.
To the poster who's moaning about cats pooing in their neighbours gardens,At least cats dont cr-ap all over the pavement's, parks & playgrounds, which in most cases, their selfish owners dont clean up, leaving other pedestrians to tread in their dogs mess!!0 -

I think the difference is that dog owners can be prosecuted for their animals bad behaviour and most dog owners are responsible and won't allow that to happen. While cats...... owners shrug their shoulders and really what can they do?0 -
fixed that for you...:p:rotfl:I think the difference is that dog owners can be prosecuted for their animals bad behaviour and some dog owners are responsible and won't allow that to happen. While cats...... owners shrug their shoulders and really what can they do?
Certainly is'nt the case where I live.going down the town you constantly have to watch where you're walking for doggy mines.
If you go up to Belfast,in some estates, the dogs quite happily roam freely about the estates, very difficult to drive thru them while looking out for dogs running back & forth infront of you and chaseing your van up the road.:mad:0
