I'm curious, what would you do...?

Just had someone send us a message through "ask seller a question" saying
I've bid on your item, if I win it I will pay when I get back from my holiday in a couple of weeks.
Just curious as to how other people would handle it?

I'd say no thanks. If you cannot pay within 7 days of auction, please do not bid. All auction wins unpaid after 7 days are refered to Ebay's NPB scheme.0

If you are happy to wait then I would say fine, but ask for a return date so you know when to start chasing if they have forgotten about it.
I would probably say it wasn'y acceptable though as I'm selling to get rid of things for more room and I'm not "storing" things for people free of charge, but thats me.0 -
It's rude, but I might tolerate it if I wasn't in a rush to get rid of the item.
The polite thing to do would have been to ASK you if it was ok to pay after he got back from holiday. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
We thought it was a bit cheeky too. It may have been different if he'd asked before bidding but he didn't.
Anyway we have removed his bid now.0 -
At least they let you know and didn't just bid then not pay.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0

That's what I thought. If someone asks before bidding if late payment is OK, I would usually be quite accommodating. If they bid first and then ask if it's OK, I'd probably still agree, but I'd point out that, since payment is usually required within 7 days, they really ought to have asked before bidding. However, I know some people book last-minute bargain holidays, and this might happen after they bid on eBay.frivolous_fay wrote:The polite thing to do would have been to ASK you if it was ok to pay after he got back from holiday.
If someone simply informed me that payment would be late, with no apology or "if that's OK" or anything, I would probably cancel their bid. They have no right to assume that their terms will be acceptable. Still, as Shelly said, at least it's better than just keeping quiet and leaving you to send payment reminders while they're still away.0 -
I wouldnt let them as they have already bid. I would tell them that sorry but you require payment within 7 days of the auction finishing, if no payment is received then you will start an NPB dispute. If they contacted before bidding and asked nicely then I may consider it - though it would also depend on my mood at the time!Weight Loss - 102lb0

Well having cancelled this guy's bid and emailed him explaining why, he has since been sending emails complaining.
Apparently, we didn't read his question (it was a statement not a question) properly, we jump to conclusions and turn customers away and it's no way to conduct a business.
Apparently because our attitude is poor we should stop using ebay.
Needless to say he is also (and has been since we cancelled his bid) on our blocked bidder list!!0 -
tell him your "business" does not offer "buy now, pay later" maybe he should shop elsewhere that does offer that. :rotfl:0

I wanted hubby to tell him something along those lines but he refused:rotfl:
He has kept all correspondance polite and factual. He has more patience than I do which is probably just as well !!0
