Unreasonable pressure from my tutor at college. Help please!

I am doing placement as the part of course for early learning at college, finish this summer.
My tutor had bad feedback from my supervisor at placement. I don't think they are true but my tutor never listened to me. Firstly she told me I couldn't find a job. But I said it's fine and I would do my best. Then she said I she wouldn't give me certificate and asked me to meet her again.
I am normal student and have been studying really really hard. I never caused any problem at college and placement. I have two children. I am getting old. I don't have another 12 month to study like these.
It's too much for me, lots of pressure, couldn't sleep well, always wonder why, why I have been treating like these.
Help please, what can I do now?

Are you saying that your performance at placement has been unsatisfactory? If that is the case then it is correct that you shouldn't complete your course and be awarded the certificate.
Have I misunderstood something?0 -

If it is too much for you, perhaps it would be best if you gave up your course, especially as it would appear you are not excelling, and get a job.
Generally I don't believe it when a student accuses a tutor or 'not listening' but giving the benefit of the doubt, have you written to you tutor (as she will not listen) and outlined the reasons why you believe your placement supervisor has given an unfair report? Have you met with your tutor again?0 -
And hopefully this 'bright new era' in politics will start to address the issue of colleges being put under pressure to award certification irrespective of performance which has resulted in many qualifications becoming devalued.Oldernotwiser wrote: »Are you saying that your performance at placement has been unsatisfactory? You only state that you do not believe you had a problem at placement but clearly someone DOES.
Have you tried asking back at the placement?
Just because your circumstances are what they are doesn't mean you are 'entitled' to a certificate.:o
You need to ask more deeply about the details of your claimed unsatisfactory placement.0 -
If you don't feel like the feedback was accurate and are getting nowhere with your tutor then there should be appeals procedures in place and that'll be specific to your college. If you have a student union rep at college go see them as they should be able to help you or at least point you in the right direction at least as to what your options are."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

what you can do is read and take on board the placement feedback, and change your behaviour to do what the employer wants.
or, if this placement has ended, talk to your tutor about another placement where you can do as the employer wants.
can you be more specific about the feedback? what was wrong?Debt free 4th April 2007.

Errrmmm.....<cough>...for whatever reason - your command of the English language is not great...
I am wondering what type of course you are doing. I guess it may depend a bit on whether it's a more "practically"-oriented course - or one where one has to be able to speak good English.
What type of course is it you are doing?
(whew...wipes forehead...having wondered how to put this.....)0 -

Well done, I thought the same but decided to abstain from comment on that point!0 -
I've had a quick check - and I think O.P. that you may not be that well aware of standard procedures in Britain.
Reason - you bought a terrace house last year and assumed that a cooker would come with it as standard. This is not the norm in Britain. A cooker will only come included with the house in Britain if that is what has been agreed in regard to that particular house.
On from this - I suspect you are not that well-informed yet as to standard procedure when doing a College course in Britain. The standard procedure is that one only gets a certificate if one has passed the course. It is not the case that everyone on a course automatically gets a certificate - certificates are given as a way of indicating that someone has actually passed the course and not just completed the course.0 -

Perhaps you would like to try and find a tactful way of saying "You don't speak good English" then:)
If one comes to a foreign country and settles there - then one has to learn to speak the language well in order to be in with a good chance of passing any courses one takes and then getting a job in that country. If O.P. does indeed wish to settle here - then it is doing them a favour to point out that it would help their chances if they learn to speak our language well.0 -
I think that's a little unfair.superscaper wrote: »I don't know why I don't visit the forum much any more. I mean it's become such a friendly and courteous place.
There are way too many people out there, particularly the young who are suffering under delusions about their capabilities.
The 'encouragement' by Government to 'not correct' in school as it could 'upset' the student is utter tosh.
The outcome is many many people who write poorly, speak badly and don't even know they are operating below acceptable standards.
In my view ceridwen was very tactful.
It is NOT helpful to be deluded about your capabilities.
Someone needs to step up and point out the obvious or this problem will only get worse.
I think ceridwen did it nicely.
As I said in my previous post, I thought the same but avoided being brave as I didn't want to get in the firing line from comments like yours.
We MUST improve our standards in the UK.
We are rapidly deteriorating into a third world power and I for one don't like it.
Sorry but that's how I feel.
If the OP took offence I am truly sorry but they need to undertstand what seems obvious to others.
What they do about it and how they choose to react is their choice entirely.
You can't get better if no-one tells you there is a 'better' to get to.:o0
