Full time student and OU study - am I eligible for OU financial assistance?

Options
I am due to start uni in September on a BA degree, but I am only in classes for about 10 hours a week. I appreciate that i will have further studying to do, but having studied with the OU previously I would like to do another course with them starting in September/October to enhance my qualifications.

My income is around £5K per year so I would be eligible for financial support, but having looked at their website it seems that I wouldn't be able to get the financial support because I am studying at another university. before I get my credit card out, can someone confirm this is the case - from their own experience?

Thanks in advance.

me too! It's not blindingly obviously from their website, and I will be off for three months working over the summer so in theory I would not be a student and could apply for my course and funding! I will call them on Monday I think and find out the definitive answer - and let you know!

I'm not 100% sure but I don't think you can receive financial assistance from the OU while studying at another university.

Perhaps someone else can post as to whether this is correct or not.

I'd also really like an answer to this. How about you try asking on www.thestudentroom.co.uk as they have forums. Some people are helpful but there are a lot of annoying teenage brats on there.

I'm almost certain that once you are into Higher Education you can't get support from OU.

That is a bit of a generalisation! Can you clarify what you mean?
    Gone ... or have I?

    Yeah sure.

I applied to OU and they said that if you are studying elsewhere you are not entitled to further support from them at all.

Upon further investigation, it seems that you can get support if you are doing Further Education (FE), but not if you are doing Higher Education (HE).

Not really a generalisation, it's what I was told, and what is in the financial support guide book from the OU.

I was told by the OU that you cannot study with them if you are studying at another university at all. They also told me that they wouldnt approve any credits done ie you can go through the motions of doing the module but they wont award the credits if you are sdtudying elsewhere at the same time. ( even if you pay for this yourself, as I woud be as i already have first degree)

I wouldnt expect due to this youd be able to get any finanncial assistance for the OU credit although Milton Keynes should be able to help.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

Apart from anything else, you won't have time to study with two different universities at one. Just because you only have ten hours a week contact time does not mean that you'll have a lot of spare time on your hands. You will be expected to be studying on a full-time basis, and will have course materials and work set, in a way very similar to the OU.
