Hi all,
I wondered if anyone knows of a good PAYG Canadian sim card?
I also found this which I heard was good:
http://www.sim4travel.com
and this:

or this?
http://www.gosim.com/index.php?page=canada2
Are any of those worth getting?

They all seem expensive to me, why not just pick up a sim card from a Rogers or Futureshop when you arrive? I dare say even the airports are likely to have them. You shouldn't expect to pay more than $10 - as opposed to the (equivalent) $80 those above will cost.
Also remember your phone will need to be unlocked and tri-band for use there.0 -
Thanks for the info
My phone is already unlocked. The plonker in carphone warehouse gave me the wrong box when he flogged me the phone lol.
Is it worth getting a Canadian sim though when calls to UK may be sky high?0 -
Use a calling card with the Canadian SIM, via a local access number. I'd suggest Bizon at Masterbell

https://www.pinonsale.com - mainly American, and too much choice0 -
So the options I found are a rip off? LOL
I'll go with a candian sim card and a calling card then methinks.
Many thanks all!!0 -
Not necessarily a rip-off.
Some people like to have the foreign SIM in advance to give the number to friends, or save the trouble of looking for one if they have to make a few calls straight after landing, so are willing to pay a premium price for convenience here. But it's usually pretty easy abroad.
None of the global roaming SIMs like sim4 travel have free incoming calls in USA or Canada. That's more to do with those markets than the SIM providers0 -
I noticed that. So with a Canadian SIM the incoming calls will be free?0
-
Er no, but a lot cheaper than the roaming ones.
Like the USA, they work the extra cost of mobile differently, by charging incoming calls as well, but the cost to call the number is the same as a landline. This means people in the UK can call you via cheap calls providers for a penny a minute or so.0 -
it costs about $80 to register your phone too. I was suprised at how expensive PAYG was when I was living in Canada and was about to buy a SIM from a rogers stall in the mall. The guy looked at me and the first thing he said was "it works very different here compared to europe" in a kind I'm sorry you're gonna have to pay a lot more voice.0
-
Brodel, so if I buy a Canadian PAYG sim, it costs CA$80 to register it?
In that case I might get one of those global sims... !!!! it, the inital £30 outlay is nothing compared to that.

those look like the best deals...?0 -
Yea, you do have to pay to register it, or at least you did for Rogers last year. I didn't look into it any further so I'm afraid I can't really tell what would be a good deal at the moment.
Have you joined the forums at BritishExpat? They are a priceless resource with regards to moving abroad and other little things such as where to get what etc, it's very friendly community too.
