Am I paying too much for my new kitchen??

We are considering the Burford Cream from Howdens, so very interested in your thoughts melody. Wasn't so impressed with the Greenwich doors, but we still need to look at the Burford ones. Was the difference in price quite big?0

@jeannine the difference in price was minimal (about £200) but the Burford doors are twice as thick. I think the Grenwich are made of chipboard and the Burford MDF. Only thing is the Burford looks lovely with real wood worktop which we couldn't afford but we went for the laminate "wild walnut" worktop which is very nice and looks brilliant against the Burford cream doors. Hope this helps?0

Weve gone for the Saponetta cream doors with Beech block worktops. I bought my double stainless steel electric oven (Indesit) from a graded appliance supplier on Ebay for a shade over £300. Ive checked it over and the only mark on it is where the plastic protective coating has been pulled back and there are some grubby fingerprint marks on it, otherwise its perfect. Its worth checking graded stuff out as there are bargains to be had.0

The Burford is a very nice looking kitchen. We installed one a few months ago and the customer was very pleased. We put in the Walnut Block workyop which compliments it really well.
You are right about the Cooke and Lewis. Flat pack is not the same quality as rigid carcasses. I think even if the rigid is a bit more expensive, its worth the extra. Also, its much quicker to install as you don't need to spend a day assembling the units.
Hope you enjoy your new kitchen.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
I have just paid £1720 for the Saponettea Cream (12 units), all soft close (although I have all my drawers on just the one unit, which I was told brings the price down), two lots of underlighting and two oak square edge laminate worktops. This is all with full trade discount I am told, as I'm purchasing it through my neighbour/a kitchen fitter. However, on seeing other prices quoted on MSE, I wonder whether I'm really getting as good a deal as I thought.
I have worked out that the original price of each of the two square edge worktops is £310, totalling £620, which seems extortionate. As I am getting a 55% discount, I am paying £279. The square edge wortops are not on the price list, but the ordinary matt laminates are at £119. £190 is quite a jump to the square edge. Square edge worktops are meant to look more like real wood, but I don't think the one I was recommended does. In fact, looking at the Wild Walnut, one of the ordinary matt laminates that some of you have talked about, I think this looks closer to the real thing. I'm thinking of returning them. Originally I was going to buy solid wood worktops off Ebay (£110 for 3m), but the sales rep talked me out of this and convinced me I was best off opting for the square edge laminate instead.
I knocked £50 off the price by accepting delivery earlier than I would have liked.
I guess I'm asking for some advice - more on what to do re: the worktops. I just can't believe the original price for a single 3m length laminate worktop is £310, simply because it has a square edge.0 -
55% discount is quite normal on worktops.
If you don't like it, send it back!
A lot of people have problems with real wood worktops, they do mark easily, go black around sink edges etc, so you need to be prepared for the fact that they may not look the same forever (although the benefit is that they can be sanded in time) and that they need constant maintenance. I'd have a search for threads on here about wood worktop before you make your decision.
I don't know how much square edge laminate costs, I've never had it quoted for me but the fact that it's new concept - it wouldn't surprise me if it was more. Either way, if I thought that something cheaper looked better, then it's a bit of a no brainer as to which one I'd choose.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
