In Train Station overnight???

Hi Everyone,

I am going away for a week and the fare was coming up at around £75 with our family rail card, however I realised that if I travelled overnight it was just under £37. I intended on staying with godmother, and she would collect us from the rail station and bring us back in the morning. However godmother is off to a concert. So no transport to her house.

I have just been looking at the bus and the trams and because of the late hour there is not much running, so we will have to walk quite a way with our suitcases.

We arrive at Birmingham New Street at 23.04 and our next train is at 6.24.

Does anyone know, are you allowed to stay on the station?

Yes you can stay on the station, but it's gonna be very cold - especially for the children!

I had thought of that, but she is about ten miles away. I expect it will eat up my train fare savings. I don't think I will go for this type of cheap fare again.

I'm quite a big scary person, and I'd be afraid to spend the night at New Street. I certainly wouldn't risk going to sleep.

it'll cancel out a lot of your savings but given you have a child with you (family railcard) what about staying overnight at the Etap ? http://www.etaphotel.com/gb/hotel-5678-etap-hotel-etap-hotel-birmingham-centre/index.shtml

Our eldest spent 5 hours in April on her way back from Egypt sitting in St Pancreas in the early hours...she hadn't taken into account that it was easter bank holiday monday- everything was shut. She absolutely froze solid.

I'am sure the local constabulary would have something to someone sleeping on a station a few young children.

I don't mean to be judgemental or assume to know what your financial situation is, but for the sake of saving £40 and make your family spend a cold night on a train platform is moneysaving too far in my opinion.

See if you can go by national express instead or alternatively save a bit more to avoid this. I really don't think you should be putting your children through this for the sake of £40.
