Thanks, will give it a try.

Wife is horrified that I've put this on a thread as it's one of those mistakes that nobody wants to admit having made. Does that make sense?

can understand that...but more to the point, unless she has already written off the money, it's ALWAYS worth it. I'd be £1,500 worse off if it wasn't for this forum...not to mention i got a free razor....lol..:)...sorry.

Ebay are happy with their own policy of "make money, its a bubble waiting to burst" mission statement. My suggestion? get help from some of the "detective" MSE'ers in here...get the police involved...i would.

do you have a link to the ebay listing?

Good luck...you did the right thing posting on here..

P.S.- to all the "i told you so" and "you asked for it" posters...give some slack, the OP knows his mistake without the grief that comes with it...
  • That learning curve gets steep at times!! Phew...

    Thanks

I no what you mean Keith :) some days everything seems to go wrong, and other days it doesn't
  • Definately pursue every channel.
Don't give up with the credit card co they should refund but you'll need to be persistant.
Also get the police involved. I once got conned on an auction site, turned out he'd done it loads of times and ended up getting prosecuted!
  • I was wondering about the police.
Would the card company involve them?
Or is there something online to report internet fraud?

Thanks for your positive comments folks, they've been very helpful

Yes, I've got kids....your point being??????????

You said it was your WIFE's credit card..........so what the heck does it have to do with your kids???

Your kid(s) may have wanted the TV............... you were the one who pitched for it off a dodgy source ( after seeing all the warning signs....) , not your kids...........

Sorry I disagree with some of the other suggestions as I honestly don't think the police will do anything here at all. Remember what Martin himself says and ask yourself would you give £400 to a stranger in the pub and expect him to deliver something to your house, of course not, so why do the same on ebay? People have said ebay don't care, but they don't police everything and in their buyer tutorial they tell you how to check the feedback and see what it really says..the fact that there was no feedback should have had you running off screaming. Ebay is not a nanny state, nor should it be. Your priority now is to get back what you can and worry about what went wrong or who is to blame later.

In the first instance have you started a paypal chargeback? If not start that right this instance. If that fails, and it seems likely if there was no buyer protection and the seller has had a chance to clear their paypal account, then go back to the credit card company. They must help.

CC companies will usually be off hand when you first call them, but call again and talk to someone more senior and insist they send you a claim form, or take a telephone report for item not received. You will be covered, but keep on at them.

    Good luck
