My son recently won an ebay auction for a TV set.
The payment for it was made through Paypal, this was in turn funy ded from my wife's credit card.
This is where it all starts to go wrong.
Seller had no feedback and used a hotmail address.
He hasn't replied to any of our emails, and the mobile number we had to contact him on 'never heard of him'
OK the warning signs were there, but we still got caught.
With a situation where it's clear this person set out to defraud, should we get the police involved? We've tried Ebay, Paypal and the card company.Paypal might cover the first £120. It's not resolved yet.

" Ok, the warning signs were there, but we still got caught."
What on earth would possess anyone to pay out £400 to a seller they suspected was very dodgy, and who had absolutely no feedback and a hotmail address.?????????

eBay not PayPal may be able to recover up to £120.00, minus £15.00 processing fee.
The seller obviously had no buyer protection.
What did the credit card company say? Were they not very helpful?-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

Woohoo! I'm normal! Gotta go tell the cat.0 -
Oh dear. If your instincts said that there were warning signs, why did you proceed??????????????
Sorry, sympathy is in the dictionary between sh*t and syphilis. Speak to your credit card for a refund. An expensive lesson perhaps?

Ok OK didn't expect any sympathy but don't add insult to injury by rubbing salt in the wound. You got kids? We ALL make mistakes!!
We hadn't realised before that it was suss. As you say an expensive lesson.
Razorbladekisses,
Thanks, the card company were just non committal, expected that tbh, they will only make a judgement when they get all the info.
Do I claim from ebay and the card company?
old system
Thanks to you too, I thought that not all cards had this kind of protection, so it was good to hear your input.0 -

Good luck with the card company from looking on this board in the past a lot i think card company prove much better than ebay so personally i wouldnt bother with ebay & id just concentarte on your credit card company.
It could be worse(i was looking on this board because i had a near scrape with a car i just won for £3000 that has turned out to be a dodgy auction.!) Phew.0 -
Thanks, will give it a try.
Wife is horrified that I've put this on a thread as it's one of those mistakes that nobody wants to admit having made. Does that make sense?0 -
