Natwest review

Years back now, I was asked to go and see the customer accounts manager at my Natwest branch. I was bricking it as I was always about £2000 in my overdraft and thought I was going to get a telling off of sort.
I had actually been giving my mum £500 a month to clear my overdraft and had got £1500 to put towards it saved, so was ready to say ok, but I'll clear 75% of my overdraft tomorrow.
Well it was far from a telling off, I ended up coming out, with a change of my account to save me money on a loan I had and the manager told me I would be accepted without question for for a Visa and Mastercard, the manager even filled in the forms for me.
I guess in the long run, apart from the loan being at a cheaper rate, it didn't save me anything and I of course used the credit cards.
It would be unfair to say that everything I have run up in the years after stem from this though.
However, I didn't learn my lesson about saying no thank you.
About 3 years later I had reason to call the bank about my new card not arriving. Ok said the woman on the other end, while you're there, I see that you have a loan finishing and are also owing money on 2 credit cards with us, if you want we can refinace the loan for you without a problem and you can use it to consolidate your cards and any other outstanding debts you may have.
Well silly me, even though I knew once the loan had finished I could clear the cards within about 6 months, I was tempted again and with a holiday coming up as well, I agreed a £7500 loan, the remaining amount of that loan is now the loan in my signature.
I have very little contact with my bank and I have now finally after many years, finally learnt my lesson and am working hard to clear my debt and won't be tempted by their offers anymore.
Having said that I have nearly always been happy with the service I've had from Natwest for the past 23 years.0 -

Yep, they're trying to sell you something. Don't bother going for a packaged account, the "benefits" are usually useless and can be bought cheaper elsewhere. If you've been living with a basic account for this long, you clearly don't want/need an overdraft or credit card. Or their expensive phone/contents/holiday insurance etc, etc. I wouldn't bother going to their "review", if you don't owe them anything, you don't need to see them."I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0
