Hi
I've not read all the posts, I was searching for some info on here about how to go about getting a private OT assessments done for my son and the costs, etc. My son has ASD and has been assessed by an NHS OT but not dyspraxic (as far as I know, but he ticks a lot of the same boxes as children who do). He has low muscle tone, hypermobility and some other bits and bobs too.
I am looking into some Sensory Integration Therapy to help him as a lot of his problems seem to stem from his sensory needs. It is very common in ASD but equally children without it can be over/under sensitive too which will affect their ability to function to their best at school, and life.
So I am wondering if anyone knows if Sensory Integration Therapy is available on the NHS, particularly in Surrey? Assuming the waiting list is too long or it is not available could anyone give me any pointers when going about getting a private assessment and then therapy? Are there usually hourly rates for this?
Also, he does do an awful lot of falling and bumping but it was said by the physio that (and I can't remember the big word but) he doesn't seem to know where his limbs are in relation to each other or his surroundings. Is this part of dyspraxia?
Sorry for the confused post, I am trying to make sure my son is getting all the support he needs while he is still young (he is 7). It feels as though as soon as he got the ASD label he was written off by the NHS.
