I bet there are plenty more of you out there getting harassed by Pipex/Talk Talk!!!!!!!
When you read the various forums there must be 10's to 100's of unhappy customers who have never received these fictitious letters from talktalk in all its guise's and ended up paying over the odds for their phone/broadband package, its a shame they cannot get together for a joint legal action against Talktalk for possible fraud or whatever you would define their actions as?
As they should have phone numbers, email addresses and postal addresses for all these customers one wonders why they didnt use all three mediums to inform people. Anybody need more than one guess as to why not.sanfly0 -
I have received more letters including the threat of passing the debt to external debt collection.............................. if they pass my details on they are in breach of the Data Protection Act.
Gets up after rolling on the floor laughing for the last 5 minutes.
And what section of the Data Protection Act 1998 do you think this would come under?
(Hint : None, as its perfectly legal for them to do so). This will get them in a bit of trouble (lots if they do it to often and enough people complain).
Just as an aside, companies don't give a damn about this act, the watchdog (the Information Commissioners Office) is bloody useless, the act itself is flawed, and companies breach is constantly with no penalties due to the fact the ICO is guttless.0 -
I'm currently going through something like this too!
In March 2010 I was suddenly charged £29.96 after paying £9.99 for the last 3-4 years. I phoned to ask why; thinking it was some sort of crazy usage thing that pushed the price up, and was shocked to hear that it was actually because Talk Talk has changed all existing PIPEX customers to their top-of-the-range tariff!!!
Apparently they sent me a letter, which I didn't receive, stating this. I asked for a refund as I'd not agreed to the change in tariff and it was refused (shock horror). I asked for my MAC code and cancelled the account (and my direct debit), and have subsequently moved to Zen (never going for a longer than 1 month contract again!). I couldn't believe a company could act like this and fraudulently take money from me.
Thinking how good life was (Zen internet is great) I received a letter from Pipex at the beginning of June asking for ~£230!!! After phoning they confirmed that they incorrectly applied a termination fee, which they agreed to waive and said I would not hear any more from them. However, since then I have received more letters including the threat of passing the debt to external debt collection.
I'm kind of hoping they do, because if they pass my details on they are in breach of the Data Protection Act. This will get them in a bit of trouble (lots if they do it to often and enough people complain).
With each letter I have phoned their customer services, who tell you reassuring stuff, but you still get the letters! So I've written a letter of complaint (guess what -no response yet!), in order to push ahead and get the ombudsman involved.
I'm asking for recompense for the phone calls, the fraudulently taken money and stress/time lost from work and with family.
I bet there are plenty more of you out there getting harassed by Pipex/Talk Talk!!!!!!!I too am suffering because of Pipex. I used to be a Toucan customer but they were taken over by Pipex ( Tiscali and now Talk Talk) but they still go under the name of Pipex. I never had a direct debit with Toucan and did not want one with pipex. They did not approve of this and kept harrasing me to take a direct debit. We always pay all our bills on time and my hubby used to go to the bank and pay by giro same day as we received their bill. A week or so later we would be called up by their credit control people or 'phoned as urgent message and told we hadnt paid our bill. We had to keep proving we had paid and when they finally accepted that we had they would finish the conversatoin '' would you now like to pay by direct debit?'' This happened on several occasions. One day I discovered that they had removed the caller display and 1571 service - no warning or mention of this- just disappeared. I called up and was told that there would now be a charge for this service. I f anyone called me up and I didnt answer in time it would go straight into Pipex answer phone saying ' you have reached extention 2 ' or words to that effect to be continued ----

I called Ofcom and they told me to follow Pipex code of practise- advised me to write recorded delivery and if I do not get a satisfactory reply then I should be in touch with OTELLO - they gave me the number. I have just sent the letter off and will post reply if any here0

By the way, should read OTELO the ombudsman0 -
Started with freedom2surf years ago. Finished up in the clutches of TalkTalk so I decided to leave. Got a MAC and cancelled the service - no problem, in fact quite impressed.
I discovered last week (4 months after I left) that they had been taking £8.50 a month from my bank account - this figure corresponds to nothing I had previously been paying. I e-mailed billing at f2s and got a reply immediately (today) saying they have cancelled all payments and "have raised a credit" for £34.
It remains to be seen whether these words are matched by action (though I'm hopeful).
Even after you've left an ISP it's still worth checking that they have stopped taking money off you.0 -
