make a 'pocket' in a chicken breast, pop a bit of Philly in the pocket with perhaps a bit of red pepper, or garlic or herbs or all of the above, wrap a bit of streaky bacon round it. Cook in oven for about 30 mins. Yum. Or use it in a baked potato, with or without garlic, herbs, anything nice you've got, makes a nice creamy filling.
  • ive stuck it in mash potato before to use it up instead of butter

Someone else did the shopping and accidentally picked up Sainsbury's low, low, looow ('be good to yourself') fat cream cheese as opposed to Sainsbury's basics full-fat cream cheese. I don't know how. Anyhow, low fat cream cheese tastes horrid. Any ideas on what I can do to it to make it taste nice, or any recipes I can use it in? I wanted it to make some cream cheese icing for carrot muffins but I'm not gonna even attempt that with this stuff. :o Otherwise I just have it on bread with jam and I know that doesn't work (just tried).

    Thanks.
  • Make a pasta sauce with it.

Fry a bit of garlic in olive oil, chuck in some bacon chucks (or ham) and some chives or chopped up spring onion until cooked, whack the cream cheese in and give it a quick stir and then throw in some cooked pasta, stir and serve.

  • As Mariek says make a pasta sauce with it, or we think it makes a normal cheese sauce richer and creamier when added. Alternatively, you could add it with a bit of pepper and maybe some nutmeg to any mashed veg.

I make cake toppings with low fat cream cheese spread all the time, no one has ever complained, just added icing sugar.
Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.
