Nokia apps vs Android apps
Ive got a N97 mini at the moment which im looking to replace by a HTC desire which looks like a much better phone in every area. The only thing im not too sure is what apps are available on the phone.
On the nokia, there are thousands of apps available on the web including garmin sat nav, quick offce and loads more including games. What are the apps like on andoid phones? I know its no way as good as the apple store but are apps like sat nav available on the htc?

Google Navigation is free on the Desire and excellent. If you want you can download CoPilot for about £30.
the Android market is second only to the iPhone App store in the number of apps available. Currrently there are about 53000.
if you have a look at this page on Wikipedia you'll see there are about 2500 apps on the Ovi Store and about 53000 on the Android Market. There's no contest.
BTW Quickoffice came pre-laoded on my Desire, I don't know if it's the same as the Nokia version though.
Have a look on https://www.androlib.com you can find out what apps are available there. It's my problem, it's my problem

thanks, i agree that the ovi store does not have many apps but there plenty of nokia forums that offer so many "unofficial" apps.
Also like you can jailbreak an iphone, can you do anything to android to get free aps?0 -

You don't need to 'jailbreak' an Android phone, and because the Android market is 'open', around 90% of apps are free. I've not paid for one yet, and I've got all the apps I think I need including ones that monitor your web use, increase battery life, a voice to text app, etc.0 -
There are now more free apps in the Android Market than in iTunes.0

I dont think there is any argument that the Apple application market is better than the Android one. There are more apps, of better quality and the store is better organised.
I cant comment on Nokia but the Android one is definitely improving and there are more and more quality applications on there. With the enormous boom in Android sales driven by the likes of the HTC Desire I think the future for Android applications is very good indeed.
am actually hoping to have an app of my own up on the Android store in a few months but we shall see :-)0 -
As a Nokia Fan boy, ( I really really do love Nokias and want them to be great again), you will not be dissapointed with the Desire. I changed sides last week and got the Desire and it is a great bit of kit.
I am sure one day I will come back to Nokia, but for the moment, they are like an old hagged divorcee - reliable, you know what you are getting, but not exciting anymore, where as the HTC is my new mistress - fun, fast and leaves you amazed with every touch!!:D0 -
Bear in mind that unlike the iPhone you don't have to install apps via the market. You can download directly from websites as well. The range of Apps for Android is growing rapidly. It's my problem, it's my problem
