I'd take it to another garage for a second opinion - it sounds as though this is what you have done anyway

I didn't want to drive it home if it wasn't fit to be on the road!

That's what they want you to think - but if it is a death trap then surely it shouldn't have passed!

    Well..it's worked!!

I'm just a bit surprised that she said it should have failed but it didn't...the worrying part really was the 'being lenient' part, makes me wonder if they're doing that kind of thing quite often!

She wrote a note on my receipt to say that I was going to have the work done elsewhere. She told my OH this was incase we got stopped by the police for a random spot check - surely if they were trying to cover their backs like that she must have been telling the truth?!

I can't understand why they passed you car. 1.3mm tread fails the test so how did your car pass?
Anyway, get what you want fixed or a new tyre elsewhere, but for safety's sake don't take risks or leave it too long.
Hoping this year is better than the last. :)

contact VOSA, if it wasnt up to MOT standard they shouldnt have passed it, sorry but my oh is an MOT inspector and its not something they would do where he works. VOSA has a points system for testier misdemenours, get a certain number of points and you're banned from testing from a few months to life.

You're asking the same question I'm looking for the answer to!

They said it passed becasue the tread was 2mm in 2 other places.

I've already had the 2 front tyres replaced, the handbreak and the brake shoe checked.

You have to ask yourself if the receptionist had the slightest clue what she, an assumption, was talking about. Just sounds like a list of advisories to me, all within passable limits at the time you took it in. ;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

From the MOT testers guide : The grooves of the tread pattern are not at least 1.6mm throughout a continuous band comprising: the central three-quarters of the breadth of tread, and
. round the entire outer circumference of the tyre

Note: Each side of the central band of the tyre can be devoid of tread (ie. ‘bald’) and still meet the pass.

Talk to someone else, not the receptionist:eek:
