Are Comet not honouring its guarantee?

Hang on a minute, the law doesn't make any distinction between consumables or otherwise.

Whether it is reasonable for a battery to last 7 months is really a question of fact and law.

The OP is trying to claim under Comets guarantee nothing to do with law.

If he wishes to bring law into it he should prove it was a inherent fault which would be difficult however I think it reasonable to expect a battery to last longer than 7 months so if he did take it further my money goes on him winning although its a little academic as the OP hasn't come back since posting

True although it is disappointing that you are the first to say that despite the guarantee, he has rights under SOGA.

My comment was in relation to JakG who said "yes, but by law its considered a consumable and so has a 6 month warranty"

The laptop warranty booklet I read definitely had listed under the exclusions the charger... although I can't remember if the battery was mentioned. Tosh send loads back to us when we send them back for warranty repairs because they don't cover them.

When I'm next in work, I'll dig a warranty booklet out and double check the wording, unless you have one to hand to scan.

Sorry to double post, but I found the photocopy I made of the exclusions:

5. Fair wear and tear of consumable parts, i.e., parts that require periodic replacement during the normal course of the system's usage, including without limitations, notebook batteries, AC adaptaters (sic) or appearance parts.

This is open to interpretation, but that's EXACTLY what's written in the warranty exclusions, right down to the typos.

A battery should last more than 7 months - My lappy is 19 months old and I use it on the battery every day - the battery is still at 93% health.

Depending on the laptop you might be able to find out how many charge cycles the battery has completed - if you can get to this information and the battery has only done a low number of cycles I suggest exercise your rights under the SOGA

I would expect the gaurentee to cover this after all if the battery wont charge the the laptop is faulty as its doesnt work.

Look up consumable in the dictionary and you will realise why you are wrong.

Hi Woody01. I think the point may be being made that whilst the "guarantee" won't help, the rights under the SOGA will.
