Whats Lincolnshire like to live in?

  • I'd agree about Louth, looks a lovely place to live and has enough shops-wise etc without being too far from the coast or countryside.
I live in Mablethorpe and have done for the past 10 years now (apart from the last year or two when i'm at university) and I love it. Fantastic place, really nice to live by the seaside and quite a lot to do.

Do agree that a car is essential in Lincolnshire though!

looks, but isnt... maybe a little boring having lived here all my life?
  • Apart from going to Uni I've lived in Lincolnshire all my life - a true yellowbelly!!

The South of Lincolnshire is very flat - endless sky! Towards the middle of Lincs, the Wolds its hilly and more hedgerows.

Lincolnshire, especially the South, Spalding, Boston etc... is very agricultural led with many fruit, veg & flower packing factories and lots of care homes.

Cost of living is lower than in many parts of England but you pay in other ways for that - such as poor transport links, can often be in a flight path of a local RAF base (which I used to be but it never bothered me), lower paid jobs and not as much entertainment options without much travelling.

A car really is essential unless you live in one of the towns on a bus route and don't mind being stranded on a Sunday. (In one village I lived in we only had 1 bus a week into Boston and then only during term times so you couldn't get into town during Easter, the 6 weeks hols or Xmas unless you walked the 2.5 miles to the nearest main bus stop!)

The people of Lincolnshire when they get to know you can be very welcoming and I love my home County. Lincolnshire has such a mix. You can choose a smaller market town like Boston or Louth or then Lincoln with more to do and more shops. The coast is lovely but bear in mind during Summer season it's often heaving with tourists and you may find yourself being highly infuriated with them when you just want to get on and do your jobs around town. I love Skegness in the Winter when it's quiet and you can wrap up warm and wander along the beaches.

If you're looking at living in the area it might be helpful to know some of your interests, what you enjoy doing, are there children involved as teenagers in particular may feel isolated if you pick the wrong area. Pm me if you want any further info. (Though I don't pop in here every day so bear with me.)

Well sometimes it feels like I see most of Lincolnshire from behind a tractor/tanker/lorry on the A16 between Grimsby and Louth. :o

Negatives: Car is pretty much an essential, public transport is a joke. Local employment opportunities very dependent on public services and have thus taken a hit with the recession. Some of the more rural villages can get completely cut off during bad weather. Some towns can be quite inward looking, although I feel that this is slowly changing. For teenagers Caistor is possibly the most boring town on the planet. :D

Positives: Much less traffic than other areas. Beautiful countryside, coast and interesting market towns to visit. In the summer it is lovely, loads of great places to picnic, beaches, walks... Property is (relatively) reasonable, although depends on the area. Gainsborough and Immingham probably have the cheapest property prices, however visit either one and you will see why (sorry!). ;)

South Lincs - the fens - is a very depressing area, the county gets better the further north you go.

I find the area around there too flat - the north is better - although I am biased. :p
