At times when we need to save our cash we have a 'Going out - Stopping in' night - get dressed up as if going to a restaurant and I cook a favorite meal - something we dont have day-to-day - candles, wine, 3 courses and coffee the lot and of course no taxis or driving - music is always to our choice and the service is excellent - no tips required!

As to car boots, I have found in order to avoid all the grabby traders etc on arrival, pulling everything out of the boot before you get a chance, I park up in my alloted space - lock up the car with everything in it and head for the tea and bacon butties stand. By the time you get back fully refreshed they have all moved on to the next lot of new arrivals and dont generally backtrack. Simples!

A three-course meal sounds excellent. The last time we had one of those was Valentine's day and it cost £45 a head:eek:. It was rubbish, as well. A manky fish cake, tiny lamb chops, and some chocolate mousse. We didnt even get any free wine. Definitely not very MSE. I think i can improve on that. I have a recipe for a killer brioche bread and butter pud which always hits the spot;). Just got to think of the other 2 courses.

soup's - melon - pate and toast are always great starters all very cheap and very resturanty

main - well this one is hard to suggest as i am not sure what you like however if you have a large likelyhood of extra's ;) at the end of the night would probably be wise to stay away from very stinky food (fish) or very spicy food (wouldnt want any hot spices that might be left on the lips passed to other 'areas') so stews/hot pots, roasts meals always good

    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

ooo Theres a butternut squash soup, recipe i have which i am told is zero weightwatchers points, but is really delicious. It has mild curry powder in it but not enough to get in the way of some lovin'. and its cheap too. Essentially just roasted BNS, with stock, curry powder, pureed with some corriander. Yummy.

hehe and go with a nice stew or something in a slow cooker (with some dumplings yum yum) so you dont have to spend the evening cooking as that will just cook throughout the day and will be ready when you are

I agree with the others that you need to treat yourself in a controlled way. My local library rents out DVD box sets for £3 and I often treat myself to an M&S dine in meal. So a nice meal with a bottle of wine and pudding and some great TV costs £13. Not cheap, but better than going out and losing control of your spending. Plus the last M&S dine in meal I got contained a lovely joint of beef that lasted for three meals!

Is there nothing cheap to do in your area? My local arts centre sometimes does 2 for 1 on tickets if you go to the matinee and the local paper always has some vouchers for local restaurants in it. Plus there are often free events in the park. My friend and I went to the theatre a couple of weekends ago. We got the tickets really cheaply because it was a preview matinee and found a £7.99 set menu at a local Italian restaurant. We had a great time!

Our library is pretty good for dvds, so yes I will look into that one. Cheapest thing is just to go out for a walk with the dog, we are on the edge of some lovely countryside, so theres that. I will check out websites for good deals on tickets and stuff. we have upgraded to 50meg broadband, cos his work pay for it, so the internet is a bit of a delight at the mo.
