I once had two MBNA cards - a platinum one and a Sonycard. I applied for the Sonycard at an airport (Just to get the points to claim a free dvd!) I informed the person hawking the Sonycard that I already had an MBNA card. She told me that MBNA allow an individual to possess up to 5 cards. My available balance was split between the two cards.

... MBNA allow an individual to possess up to 5 cards.
I was told this too.
MBNA doesn't seem to mind as much as some card issuers.
I signed up with Sonycard (for a 0% fee-free balance transfer) when it was operated by Bank of Scotland. Subsequently, Sonycard was bought by MBNA.
I already had a 0% balance transfer on my MBNA Platinum card.
On receiving a mailshot that was too good to refuse, I applied for the Abbey Shareholder card as well (0% fee-free balance transfer for 12 months) issued, once again, by MBNA. By this time, I'd paid off the balances on the other two MBNA cards. The bank offered to transfer some of my unused credit from my MBNA platinum and Sony cards to give me a more generous credit limit!People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0
